Yep its like the ocean has a 9-5 mon-fri job of being perfect for diving.

For those of you talking of diving tomorrow, the vis today was a huge improvement from yesterday. Had 40 in 55ft, top/bottom in 35ft, and 30 in 25 ft. If you can get out before the afternoon winds kick up, could very well be a decent shoredive day. :)

Forecasts seems to be calling for 15mph NE winds overnight. Do you think the winds will still be low enough until later in the day to get a dive in?

Edit: Then again, your last report was in like 3-5 lol!

I was thinking about shorediving with a friend south of commerical to get him some freediving practice. But the seas look like they might be kind of gnarly. Was anyone out today to get a look?

the thing that i dont understand about these is what problem are they trying to solve/fix..the snorkel is fine as it is or maybe get crazy and add a purge valve.

    this is just gimmicky shit

They are trying to solve the same thing that weight loss supplements and workout machine's are. How to extract a bunch of money from someone for a process that seems elusive but actually just comes down to a few simple rules (that dont cost much) and hard work. The average persons reluctance to work hard makes this marketing strategy highly effective.

I know there are different models with different quality cameras in them and the one I received was very near the bottom. so that may be a factor. The mask was very comfortable and fit well. With a better camera I can see it being decent... except for those + signs. I just cant imagine what would make someone think two large blurry plus signs in the center of your vision would help. Simply putting it on for one second makes you realize how bad the idea is.

I saw mention of a snorkel that has two separate tubes, one for intake and one for exhaust. I immediately thought it was probably a gimmick, but decided to look for more info. Here's a good discussion about it on deeperblue Kapitol Reef Snorkel If anyone has more info about it, perhaps a double tube snorkel from a different manufacturer, feel free to add to this thread.

For information on what makes a good snorkel see this thread http://spearfishing.world/mask…t-makes-good-snorkel.html

After reading that thread, to me it sounds like most other dry/valve snorkels. A whole bunch of over engineering, drawbacks, and complications to solve a problem divers shouldn't have in the first place. If you cant blow a bit of water out of your snorkel every once in a while you should probably not be in the ocean. Being one mouthful away from disaster is not the position to be in.

I also think its funny that its combined with that terrible camera/mask combo in that photo you posted. I received one from a non diving savvy relative quite a while back. Not only are the pictures/video worthless. But the mask has plus signs baked right into the center of the lens'. Totally obstructing your view. Its also only waterproof to 15 feet.

Thanks for the kind words and recommendation Dan :D

I agree that the finished product should be much nicer. The trident post came at the perfect time and Dan had the brilliant idea of incorporating it into the text.

A bit extreme, but you could try using super glue, when I used to rollerblade we would use it on our ankle bones to prevent blisters from skating all day, im not sure how well it would hold up in the water, but im thinking it would last a day of diving. Problem is your left covered in super glue afterwards :D

Hmm *wikipedia's*, why yes it is. Good to know, ive heard the term bunion before but thought it was more of a skin thing then a bone/tissue thing. I've never noticed it in my life until doing long dives with those cressi fins.

I went over dans today and picked up a new set of fins. Between the footpockets he carries the omer melleniums were most comfortable, but all of them seemed to feel better then the cressi's.

I went for a nice long swim in the pool and the problem seems to be completely eliminated. The omer foot pockets are much tighter near my ankle and the top of my foot, and much roomier near my toes, this causes the pressure of finning to be distributed evenly on the top of my foot, instead of at the end of my foot.

    Red = more pressure finning.

Not to mention how much amazingly better these cf blades are compared to the plastic. :thumbsup2::thumbsup2:

    Thanks again Dan!

    Hi Guys,

I've been diving with cressi gara 3000 LDs for a while in size 7-8. While the footpocket is pretty comfortable on most of my foot and 7-8 is a good fit (I wear 8.5-9 shoes). I have very boney feet and it seems to squeeze and put pressure on a protruding bone of my largest toe. This makes for some serious pain by the end of a dive. Ive tried to adjust my finning technique to put less pressure on the insides of my feet, but no matter what I do they hurt.

I am wondering if there are any foot pockets out there that are either wider or softer enough to account for my alien toe. If there isnt, im wondering if anyone with similar issues has figured out a solution such as maybe over sizing and using a thick booty?

I think this problem is made worse by the fact that the foot pockets are flat, but my foot slopes smaller away from my large toe, so the large toe is very tight and gets the brunt of the pressure on upstrokes.

I am planning on purchasing some c90 fins from dan at pursuit very soon, so if any of the 3 pockets he carries fits the bill that will be even better. Ive attached a few images that describes exactly where the pressure point is on my foot in these cressi fins.

Its red in the picture from a 20 minute test swim in the pool

Welcome to the board man. I am in Ft Lauderdale off of Sunrise near the beach. I am down to dive most weekends. Shoot me a message if ya want to head out. Yak or beach; either way works.

Sounds good, do you have a kayak yourself? I am saving up for a kaya but I currently only have a boogie board float rig. Its got a good flag on it but weekend boaters are a scary bunch which is why I currently try to sneak out to the more active spots on nice weekday mornings. Where do you usually dive? I find myself at the commercial buoys alot, but have been recently looking for new/other spots and planning to try visiting the aerojacks .75mi off of 17th soon. Although current, tide, boats and brown water is a factor.

    Hi Everyone,

Im Mark, currently from Fort Lauderdale, originally from hollywood. Born and raised in the oceans of south florida by a dad who taught us how to make Hawaiian slings out of wire, empty pens, and old masks before we were teenagers. I love freediving, spearfishing, lobstering, scuba, hookah, beach diving, boat diving, photography, fishing, all of it. Aside from diving, I enjoy cycling, drinking:toast:beer, tattoos, and keeping saltwater reef tanks.

I am a freelance web developer and graphic designer, so my schedule is flexible enough to squeeze in morning beach dives when the weather and buddy situation permits.

I look forward to hanging out on these boards, they seem like a great friendly informative place to learn about and discuss diving and spearing.:thumbsup2:
