Still need to ballast and coat her. Been so crazy busy with my new job I haven't touched it in weeks. Gonna get the ballast in this week for sure.

I never open my hatch in the water. Esp when its rough. I mainly use it for my keys, wallet, a flare, a radio, and anything else that I need to bring for an emergency. Basically stuff that goes in before the dive and hopefully doesn't come out till after. Its always stayed closed and dry even in crazy rough seas. But If I ever needed the flare or radio when it's rough I expect some water might make its way in.

I was messing around with my dlsr taking some pictures of feeding my fish tank. The footage was pretty cool so I timelapsed it and slapped some chill music on it and put it on youtube. Anemones are weird incredible creatures. It really looks cool full screen in 1080p

I've never shot a roller gun and can't comment on the recoil. But I doubt I'd shoot one even if it worked like a laser because of how they're loaded. I've seen a lot of videos of guys struggling to grab the tiny bit of wishbone sucked into the muzzle. And lots of builds that incorporate loading tools and extra handles on the wishbone. No thanks.
Which reminds me of something I dislike in general. Closed Muzzles and enclosed tracks.
Mating the end of the spear to the end of the gun makes me feel like a drunken knight trying to sheath his sword. I much prefer holding both at midpoint, poking the spear through the bands while clearing the shark fins and then dropping the spear on the track and engaging it into the mech. This works really well with a deep open track but I find that even with my carbon pipeguns shallow track I can quickly engage the spear without looking or thinking by using my gun hand to guide it.
People also seem to love building roller guns with reels. Seems like asking for trouble to me.

At my dads house lol. He found it in the boat. Ill get it for you next time I'm there.

Wow looking at the pic I just realized exactly where u went out of. Props for switching it up
Weve been beachdiving off of there for a while but this is the first time someone tried bringing a yak. I like the area and there are some nice spots but the closest yak launches are pretty far in each direction.

I agree if I know it's going to just be schoolies I won't be using the big gun. But I find that's so seldom the case diving on floatsam and weedlines. I never know whats going to show up. I ran into many situations last year where I could shoot the schoolies just fine with my pipegun but schools of wahoo and larger dolphin would come in and never get close enough for my 120 euro.
This gun was made in response to using a long euro gun and wishing so badly it was just a little longer and more powerful too many times. Maybe one day when I'm a better hunter and can get hoos closer a single band euro might be all I need but until then I'd rather put less schoolies on the boat and be prepared for everything.

I thought and researched a lot on this issue when building my big gun. In the end I decided that despite the advantages a horizontal band stretch and unbunched rubber gives I would probably hate how tie-in bands acted between being loaded.
Loading is already waaay too much of a factor in how many fish I am going put on the boat with this 4 band bluewater gun. I feel like adding in a twisted sausage tangle would only worsen a significant bottleneck of the gun. Hopefully im only pulling the trigger a few times a day on monster fish. But realistically I know ill run into plenty of situations where nothing is huge, but I cant reload the damn thing fast enough.
Another issue is powering down. If im shooting schoolies 5 feet away id like to load 2 bands to save time. Normal rubbers give you a nice hole to see through whereas tie in bands go straight up. Can also remove a band in 20 seconds undoing the wishbone knot.
Well see how it turns out soon enough. Most of my decision was based on reading other peoples opinions and speculating. But the way nates rubbers were a bit twisty and tangled and floated like kelp is what I'd read and imagined and wanted to avoid.

I use a stringer with good viz. If the viz is bad ill put the fish on the board. If a shark comes around ill do the same.
If there is any turbulence in the water the banksboard will keep getting wet. But on a really flat day the board stays relatively dry. If its flat and hot you might run into a little bit of a problem. But ive been using this thing for a while and never needed a bag. Typically when the viz is bad its rough and the board stays plenty wet. If it was an exceptionally hot and flat day I would probably make a point to splash water over the mesh/fish every now and then for the evaporative cooling effects.

Awesome Frank. Really enjoyed the turtle clips editing and epicness. So much underwater video is edited like a documentary from 1985 (including mine) that its cool to see drama and suspense. And as always thanks for the awesome pic of me lol. I need to take more gpro pics for sure.
Saturday was a good time despite never shooting my gun. I saw lots of very decent but way too spooky schoolmasters and dogs. Lots of april groupers, lots of borderline grovers/schoolmasters and 12" hogs. Nothing to connect to my spear to but it was nice to get out.
We tried to launch a yak where it wasn't allowed. The lifeguards stopped us but they were very cool and friendly to us about spearfishing and launching from the crowded beach. Just not a kayak. They even watched Shawns kayak under their tower while we dove so we didn't have to drag it back to the car until after. It seemed like they almost wanted to let us go but couldn't because 400 people were watching. They also said we could before they arrive at 9. So props to Hollywood lifeguards for being cool dudes.

Lunk they are talking about the Exxon Valdez gun a few posts down

:reddevil: clearly napalm
Someone downloaded "the anarchists cookbook" as a kid.
Might want to fill a tennis ball with matcheads and throw it at the homemade napalm.

It also looks to me like the inside delrin spacer could be modified to give the back roller some clearance. You could do two plates in stainless instead of that thick delrin to gain 1/8 and then use delrin spacers to stagger the rollers. Doesnt seem like it would take much offset.

Undersea,
I found this design on another board. Looks to do a very good job of solving the line wrap and anchor issues.
-
I believe it is Judah. However they've since fixed the problem by not counter sinking the screws. I think Dan's beef with those handles is more their 1911 ergonomics.
Nice work Undersea! I like the camo job and how the bands, handle, camo, and butt all has a matching color scheme. Nice looking gun. Let us know how it performs.

Also I figured I should mention the best part about open cell suits before you get one. They require lube to put on! <img src= " class="smiley" srcset="https://spearfishing.world/forum/images/smilies/emojione/1f606@2x.png 2x" height="23" width="23" loading="eager" data-tooltip="biggrin" aria-label="biggrin"> Really though, since open cell neoprene sticks to your body you need to spray a solution of water and conditioner into the suit before sliding it on. (I use 90% water 10% conditioner) This seems to scare a lot of people looking into purchasing an open cell wetsuit but its really no big deal. 3 extra minutes putting the suit on is well worth hours and hours of comfort.

The only guy I recall on here who used to use custom Elios suits was Rolo. He spoke very highly of them but I believe he's since switched to Speardiver suits after finding them as good as his custom Elios. Ive heard a few other people say good things about Elios suits but can't recall who it was. You can search the forum and probably find a few posts with people asking and telling about Elios suits. On the other hand ive only heard terrible things said about Oceanos custom suits so steer clear. Really though, custom suits aren't needed or worth it 98% of the time. And Most of that 2% seems to be tall skinny people. Stretching to fit a little in a few places is good and expected in an open cell suit. Thats how I wore one size too small for years. Its usually when the ankle and leg seals are loose and water can leak in that the suit doesnt "fit".
