    Nice report.

How far is that from Coronado island? I may visit there this summer.

There are two Coronados here in the San Diego area. The City of Coronado is a peninsula with NAS North Island. It is about 4 miles away. The Coronado islands are three islands in Mexican waters just south of the border. They are like 18 miles by boat.

I picked up some good tips in the vid! Thanks :laughing3:

Some tips you didn't get in the vid.... don't drop your key in a jetty.... don't leave your gear on a rock while you are searching for said key (a boat may go by and wash your gear off the rock)..... and don't forget your weight belt! It was a fun time making the video. We kept coming up with new shit and I had to compress it back down to 10 minutes to fit the time frame we were shooting for.

    Btw.... store bought tilapia.... disgusting!!!

Brett got it in his head to do a "closure to closure" dive. Two cars, two guys and as many fish as you can tie to a float and drag several miles down the coast...... We met up at the Children's Pool to check conditions and see which way the current was flowing. Conditions looked nice and the board said 10+' viz. The current wasn't flowing much like it has on some days. After saying hi to some friends, we drove to Palomar Street to drop one of the cars. We then took the other one up to Boomers and got suited up. We walked down to Boomers and let some tourists take their pictures with us.

The waves weren't too bad but our favorite entry at Boomers is now part of a reserve so we had to jump off the rocks in a little different spot. We hopped in and quickly realized that conditions were even better than we had expected. We hit the kelp and started looking for whatever was around. Unfortunately, there weren't too many fish around. We saw a very few small calicos and some small female goats. Oh well.... sometimes that is the way it goes but the conditions were really nice. Viz was 10-20' with lot's of people on the beach and in the water.

After hunting boomers for a bit, we start swimming south. We hit my favorite sheephead/soupfin location off of another beach which shall remain nameless but nobody was home. Saw one decent sized female but decided it wasn't worth it. There was very little current so it took us quite some time to make it to CP. The water was 57 degrees and we were a bit chilly but we were just having fun. We spent about half the time going one up and one down and really hitting certain areas hard. We spent some time in one area looking for halibut but none were home. We saw a guitar fish and the usual stingrays etc.... not a single hali. Fortunately, we still had a long way to go and a lot of diving to do so we weren't really in a hurry.

We hit the CP reef and breezed by Casa. About the time we were south of Casa, I notice Brett lagging. I dropped back to see what was up and he had a sheephead on and was measuring a bug. I thought "oh man... I haven't seen a single keeper yet"! The bug was short so some of the pressure was off and I saw a decent sheephead. I take a shot and missed. Oh well.... plenty of ground to cover and a lot more fish in the sea. We kept moving and hit hospital. It started getting a lot more fishy and we were back in the kelp so we slowed down. Not wanting Brett to show me up too bad, I take my anger out on a poor calico. He was a decent sized fish and I was proud of myself for getting a perfect stone shot. That always makes it easy and it leaves all the meat so I was happy. After that, I decided to get much more selective again. Brett brings in some more fish and we continue moving.

Marine Street was nice and the viz was probably cleanest in there. All the bugs we saw were short but we were starting to get a decent catch. The float was starting to slow us down. Both Brett and I drop down and all of a sudden, I hear a boat coming towards us. The boat was moving FAST and was getting really close. We both decided to stay down...... damn good thing we did. The boat literally went over our heads. The prop missed the float by a few feet but my floatline got caught in the prop for a few terrifying seconds. My gun almost leapt out of my hands and I was worried. Fortunately, the float line came loose and we were ok. We both popped up and checked our gear. Other than a few nicks in my floatline, no damage done. We were cussing out the boat as it drove off. I am not sure whether the boat ever saw us or heard us because it didn't slow down or turn or anything. Needless to say, we were pissed..... With an effort, we calmed down and resumed our diving.

We shot a few more fish and made it down to Palomar street. The float had a decent amount of fish on it and we were cold/tired by the time we hit the shore. We picked up our gear as the tourists started pelting us with questions. The best part of my shore diving in La Jolla is having kids come up to me and ask me about spearfishing. The parents are nice and all but the kids have a true fascination and they love seeing the fish.

We loaded up, and went back to my truck. We snapped a few photos for the day and split up to go eat and rest. about 5 hours on the water and we hit all of our favorite non-MPA locations in La Jolla. We may have to make the "closure to closure" dive a regular occurrence. Get your butts out there, forget the drama for a while and enjoy the fishing while you can! Viz is good and the swell is down.... that is until the next winter storm

The fights not over yet guys , don't think not buying a lic is gonna mean squat

We need to stay strong and stay united as a tribe ...

I know some guys in the fathomeirs /oc spearos/ sdfds are setting up a great event that will
Go Down in history .. I can't wait

It will happen.... just where? Lot's of plans in the works to protest these closures. We are not happy but I do not advocate illegal poaching. I have my own "camera platform" and we will be making dives. Golly.... hope somebody doesn't call Cal-Tip on me ;)
