Yep, specially for spearfishing when you're diving a bit deeper...

I'd prefer that it automatically display the surface interval too, but I really don't miss it that much (especially considering the price of the watch.) I just "listen to my body" to sense when I'm relaxed enough for my next dive. If I'm doing deep dives (for me that's ~70-100') then I give myself ~5 min. surface interval. The watch has a countdown timer, but I haven't messed with that.

I bought the Pyle watch via Amazon for $79.95 a couple months ago and I'm very pleased with it. I've put a couple hundred dives on it already. I find that I prefer it over my Oceanic Geo. (My Geo occasionally switches to scuba mode on its own.:confused1: Then I have to wait at the surface for 10 mins before I can set it back to freedive mode.:boring1: That problem cannot occur with the Pyle watch.:thumbsup2:)

My only criticisms about the Pyle watch are . . .

    1. The battery is not user-replaceable. (Although, that's what I intend to do when needed.)

    2. It does not automatically record surface interval. That doesn't matter very much to me, but it might to some of you.

    3. The dive log stops recording new dives after dive number 100. However, it's very simple to delete all dives so you have a clean slate.

and lastly... 4. It looks a bit cheap. I mean what purpose is a rotating bezel on an analog display other than to "look" like a dive watch?

From what I've read, the Pyle and the Omer MIK1 are the same watch on the inside. Their User's Manuals are identical except for the cover page. Granted, the Omer looks nicer on the outside. But, that's not worth spending $300 more in my opinion.

BTW, I think "jomer ts1" is probably a typo.

My experience in selecting new fins...
For years, I had been using Dive-R medium FG blades in Picasso footpockets (fp's). Last June, I switched to Omer Stingray fp's with the same Dive-R blades. The Stingrays fit my feet very nicely and I thought I'd be content with that combo forever. However, after joining this forum three months ago, I became tempted by all the good reports about Speardiver fins. My feet are US size 16, so I'm limited on which fp's fit me. The Pathos do not. I ended up selecting Mares Razor fp's. Their tendons are quite soft, so I went with Dan's suggestion of medium-hard Speardiver blades.

I finally got to try them Friday after work. I took both pairs of fins for comparison. The first difference I noticed performance-wise is my Razor/Speardivers feel much easier to kick than my Stingray/Dive-R's. I did several dives to about 50 ft. I kicked down in my usual manner (relaxed, not racing) except I kicked all the way to the bottom instead of drifting down after I was negative. My number of kicks going down were the same for both pair, but I felt less strain on my legs with the Razor/Speardivers. I imagine less strain means less O2 consumed and more bottom time. (I couldn't measure that day because my watch battery died.)

I'm very happy with my new fins, but wish I had the means to try other Speardiver blade stiffness and fp combinations to see if there's something that I'd like even better. Maybe someday. Meanwhile, I look forward to putting these through their paces.

Many thanks to Dan for his good advice and patience with me!

Very cool, indeed! Wow! I hear whales very often during winter here, especially strong at night. It's interesting to listen to their various songs. One sounds like very amplified drips of water into a bucket. Another sounds very similar to an elephant blowing its trumpet. One night as I was exiting the water, I heard them tail slapping the surface, and could hear them breathing too. But, I couldn't find them with my light. I hope to see them from underwater some day, and swim with them too.

I always thought a bit differently. I figured that Open Cell was a description of the surface rather than the characteristic of the Elastomer. When this rubber is formed, it's laid out in panels like a foam to gel. These panels can be @ 25mm in thickness. They are then sliced by a nasty machine into the requested thickness in increments of 0.5mm. Ie. 3mm, 3.5mm, 5mm etc. When the machine slices into this foam [Neoprene is made of an Elastomer foam] it cuts open the bubbles within the foam leaving those along the surface Open. There are also Closed Cell Surfaces.. Each end piece of the original Panel, is closed Cell, ie there are no cut open Cells. These are what we refer to as the Smoothskin used for "Smoothskin Seals" on the face, and sometimes, wrists, ankles, of suits. Otherwise, a Skin can be glued onto an Open Cell surface to seal it ie, SCS, Metalite, Gold, etc.. both inner and outer. But a true Closed Cell Surface occurs only on the two end pieces of the original slab.

My $O.O2, I'd stick with Open Cell. Lined/Unlined makes most people confused.

That's what I thought too, but Jon explains it way better than I did.

I thought "open cell" refers to just the surface of the neoprene. Some unlined neoprene has a slick skin finish at its surface. And some unlined neoprene appears to have open pores at the surface.

Dan, I finally got to try on a Mares Razor footpocket today and I think they fit my feet just as nicely as my Stingrays. You're right, the Razor tendons are very soft. So, I'm ready to order the C90 medium-hard blades, but first want to call you to discuss. It's nearly midnight EDT now, and even though I see you're currently logged on to this forum, I think it's too late to call now. I'll try calling you Monday around 6:30pm EDT.

I guess my hope for the Speardiver brand footpockets is that they will have the performance characteristics of Pathos Fireblades that you guys brag about, but fit my big feet as nicely as Stingrays. Any chance?

Yes, my DiveR's are medium stiffness.

Dan - I sent an email. Please answer when you can.

Also, I'm curious to hear any advance info about Speardiver brand footpockets that you can share.

    Thanks!

The Pathos Fireblade f/p that I received is not a comfortable fit for my big feet. The bottom of the f/p shows the size as 46-48 & 8 1/2 - 10. That must be a mistake, right? I don't know which size it really is, but if this IS the largest size f/p from Pathos, then I'll have to do without them, but I'm still interested in the Pursuit CF blades.

I'll return the Pathos f/p and order a single Millenium to see how it fits me.
