Nice pictures. Love the rocky coastlines! The water there is murky?
They say it is usually calm and clear, but I got it milky and not calm. This was back in April, and only shore dives. I dont know about the rest of the year, and I guess the islands would be better all year long.
At the end it was getting really calm and clear inshore, but I had to go. -
Thank you for sharing. I am taking the family (and the spear gear) for a trip to the North Island April next year. If you don't mind I will have some questions for you.
Sure, no problem. I don't know that much but I'll be happy to share it.

Great pictures, I don't think I ever met nicer people. NZ has everything... great trout fishing, huge bill fish, lots of sports and warmhearted people.
Cheers, Don
I'm thankful for having been able to go, I wish I can go back, many times! really.
cheers! -

Sorry I missed your post, most of my diving was near Bay of Islands. If I didn't have a kid here in school I would have moved. I love the place.
Cheers, Don
I wanna move there too!

Well anyway, and a little late but, if anyone wants to know... What an incredible place Auckland is!! nature everywhere, beautiful shore lines, beaches, green fields, nice people, I just enjoyed the place too much. This was actually a busy family trip but I went prepared for at least some shore diving. We had stormy weather most of the trip, rain, wind and some waves. Went shore diving in Auckland area, it was an adventure because we didnt have much information about spots or anything, we read the regulations and spoke with locals who gave us some ideas about spearing in the area, where not to go and what to shoot, so we went. Almost zero viz the first days, then it got a little better later on, I could finally see the end of the gun underwater! and then it really calmed down at the end and the water wanted to clear up really nice but I had to leave already. Next time! and I hope it's soon. I know these are not the quality fish over there but had a lot of fun hunting for some dinner while exploring the coast line. Enjoy the view on some of the pictures...

Also, can anyone please tell me where to find spearfishing regulations for NZ?
I was told there is a 10 fish limit per day, but I can't find any more detailed information.
I found out about the reserves though: Marine reserves A
