Thanks for the video! I have shot and lost one so far and I really want to bring the next one in! Good information

Thanks. Cool and informative! I definitely appreciate the simple approach as well

Can you take a picture of how you anchored you bands to the connection to the trigger guard? Also your reel is much further forward from where mine is located. Is it inside of the plugged area of the barrel? If so are you afraid it might leak? Maybe a dumb question but it would worry me. Regardless I would love to grab a roller muzzle and try it out one day. Hawaii definitely lends itself to that kind of hunting. We don't have to reload so fast because the action is usually not hot and heavy. It always seems it's a process of long drops and lots of waiting to get decent fish. Not sure I agree that loading time is that big of a drawback. Thanks for any advice and personal expiernce you share. Gonna be on big island next few days but got to work the whole time. Would love to dive with you and your boys one day.
Thanks

That's cool. Thanks for the info. How did you end up anchoring the bottom side of the band?

Makoa your sons moana Kali is super stud. Especially since it seems when they get anywhere near that big they are so stinking smart that it seems they can count the wraps on your gun and know when you have come any where near close enough. Then they just split. Only on deep dives have I got close to larger ones. Thst fish is for sure a trophy!
Thanks for the photo of barrels side by side. Gives good perspective on thickness for sure!

Funny thing about how I have my gun now is that I almost could have bought the same thing from Dan. We will see how it performs now.

How do you like the roller? Is it tip heavy in the water? Is it that much of an improvement?

Bunch of small guys this day. Good fun though

Same day with rod and reel as the big tuna. I apologize for the cheesy grin.

Another good dive day

My first uku. I try not to shoot them this small now.

I know the wishbones tied a bit long. I usually tie them shorter I just didn't while mocking them up to feel the new loading process and for the picture.

Think I got this first photo attached. It's just of my gun. In its current reincarnation.

Had been reluctant to post since I never kill any super impressive fish but thought oh well. Sometimes I feel like I gain knowledge from this little community and don't participate. I am moderately bad with technology so this may be a rough go. I will post pics once I figure out how.
I have lived on Maui now for a year and a half. I try to dive twice a week but it for sure doesn't always happen ( dang responsibilities!). I am improving as a diver but still have a long way to go. I am also improving as a hunter but still have a long, long way to go. Hunting fish in Hawaii is unreal difficult compared to where ever else I have been before (fresh water, Cozumel, east/west coast Florida). It is an art. When you can dive an out of the way place as compared to the more accessible spots it becomes noticeably more successful. It's not that there aren't fish out there- it's just they automatically know you are a predator. It's crazy.
I dive with carbon speardiver fins (crazy better than my cressi garas) and an 110 aim rite super venom. I am constantly screwing with this gun to make it better. I switch first down from a 150cm spear 7mm to a 140cm. This greatly improved feel because the gun is no longer tip heavy. I like to swim with the gun flipped over and holding it by the handle tucked to my body so this reduced the fatigue in my hand considerably. It took about three days diving to get used to the new method aiming but the last time o was in the water it felt nuts on the money. Then I went from 16mm bands to 14mm. This greatly enhanced the tigger pull. I don't jerk the trigger as much (this is also probably due to me working on the issue). I switched back from a double wrap to a single even though I am still on the fence about this. Today I pulled off the Aimrite handle and put on a Pathos D'Angelo 1 handle I had lying around as my fresh water gun. I love the ergonomics of it. We will see if this translates to better performance (or not). If I like it I will upgrade to the Meandros mech when I get the money. It only gained 4 cm of band stretch with the reverse mech but the gun over all is shorter and more efficient. I had to shave down the flopper a hair even. Again we see how this translates in the water.
Anyway I post a few picks soon. Safe and happy diving

Keep posting your innovations. The longer I play at this great sport the more I begin to tinker with the "norm" to adapt to my personal style. And the longer I live in Hawaii the more I appreciate the "homemade" version a opposed to dive shop bought (hello Hawaii-goodbye money)!
