    Hi Alex, Lots of questions.......

It's real easy to rent a car and go diving you can go pretty much all over the island and do some shore diving and actually you can hit real nice reefs all around, anything from real shallow to real deep. Fajardo is a real good area for shore fishing and also to find someone with a boat that will take you fishing. Also Fajardo is where you take the ferry boat to Culebra Island, you can take your gear with you but the captain of the ferry boat will hold your gun during the travel to and from Culebra and give it back to you upon arrival to port. Travel time to and from Culebra is 1:15 min more or less and cost $2.25 each way. There is only one reserve on Culebra and is well marked but the rest of the Island is diveable from shore. The restaurant owners are pretty friendly and I'm shure they can cook your catch. The best way to enjoy the Island is to try and stay a few days and I'm more than shure that your parents will love the little island. You'll get a chance to catch fish, lobsters, conch and octopus. Bull sharks are not an issue but them 12 foot tigers will get real annoying sometimes, nah I'm just kidding! Sharks are not a real issue you might not even see one during your stay but if you do and you think you can handle it they are fair game here. Nurse sharks are protected. You got a better chance of having a big barracuda snatching fish from your float. Those regulations you have there are outdated so are the latest ones since we're on the process of doing the new regs. But don't worry much since you might never be aproached by any game warden during your lifetime here in P.R. But don't get me wrong most seriuos spearos and fishermen here do go with the law. Let me know when you're coming for shure and if I'm here we can do a little fishing or hook you up with one of the locals. I go to culebra a couple times each month and we can hit the shores for shure or do a some from a boat depending on how things are going by then. If any more questions feel free to PM me and I will help you as much as I can.

The epoxy that I've been using in my guns for finishing is Flex-Coat, a rod building marine epoxy used for finishing rod wraps. I comes in ''LITE'' and ''HIGH BUILD'' formulas. I like it because it is not a brittle epoxy that sets hard. It does tend to yellow but not as much as others epoxies, it might take years. I mix it with Xylene and goes on real easy, just hang your blank, no turning necessary. First coat is Epoxy 1:1 ratio plus 6 parts Xylene, don't mix a lot because 5cc of mixed epoxy plus the xylene will be enough to do a gun and have left over. Second coat is Epoxy 1:1 plus 4 parts Xylene with sanding in between coats after 24 hours of curing. 2-3 coats is enough for a mirror finish. Don't worry if you get a run, you shouldn't if careful but it could happen, just keep an eye on the gun the first few minutes after putting on the epoxy and hit the run with the brush. You will probably see the brush marks but it will level. Also don't get scared if you see that your left over epoxy doesn't cure even after a few days, IT WILL CURE ON THE GUN AFTER ABOUT 10 HOURS. If you don't like the shiny finish on the gun just sand it with 1000 grit sandpaper and soapy water or rubbing compound like Don said. I had a gun done like this 14 years ago and the finish still pretty decent, plus you can always sand and apply a real thin coat like the first and it'll be good as new again.

I believe that as long as you see the shark you can keep your cool, is that loooooong swim to the boat when you don't see the shark that really gets you. Also is the size of the shark, the smaller ones we don't really care much (actually they better beware cause here they're fair game) but when they're over 6 feet is when really gets interesting. Other than that any shark encounter where you didn't lose any body parts you did well regardless of what you did or felt afterwards:D.

Hey, it's coming out nice.I also cut the trigger pocket oversize for the epoxy, it's the first time I hear someone mention it on a gun build. I guess it doesn't matter on an oil finish but I learned it the hard way after my first epoxy coated gun was ready for assembly. Also like the way you did the handle.

Old beuchats used a plug similar to the one Dan posted but it was made out of hard plastic and rubber. Using solid rubber plugs work but they are hard to push in when in the right size or leak water if they go in too easy. A friend of mine used to fabricate an aluminum slug with three o-rings inside grooves that would work perfect, maybe Tin Man can make one out of delrin or something??? I had good succes using a foam plug and then pouring G-FLEX epoxy over it about an inch thick and more if wanted to anchor something like a reel adapter.Hope this helps.

Why don't you just practice with whatever gun you like, have or can afford? I wouldn't get into so much of a test but I would try and practice with what I have. Sometimes I try and use any other gun that my fishing buddy is using to have a feel for other guns but remember that what works for him don't necesarily works for me. I would not clamp the gun since we don't clamp our guns while fishing. Also the brain does compensate without you even noticing. What I look for in a gun is that is well made and have enough mass for whatever shaft/band combination that I'm going to use. You can always fine tune a gun and make it shoot better, were not talking sniper rifles here. Some guns come from the factory with a poor band/shaft combination that can be improved upon. So don't lose any sleep over it and work with what you have. I rather do a little friendly tournamet in the pool to see who is a better shot.:)

Just take it easy bro, it'll come to you. Freediving spearfishing is something that takes time (for some more than others) enjoy the ride and have fun but above all be safe. Time in the water will make you a better diver. You don't have to prove nothing to nobody, catching big fish and posting pictures is nice for shure but is for entertainment, if you go out and catch your own dinner you succeded but if you didn't and spent some good time in the water specially with friends you still succeded. Look around and learn and ask away but above all have fun and be safe.:)

What's up Psycho? Ya lo estrenaste?
