I really like the looks and feel of splicing dyneema. The Brummell is awesome.
I have an app on my phone called Grog Knots. They have at least 4 different splices for dyneema.
I used a locking Brummell to attach my swivel to the dyneema on my reel.
It is important to taper the end that is back inside the main line.

Has anyone used a wind-on fishing leader for there shooting line ?
I have made my own wind-on's in the past for rod and reel fishing and was thinking of using the concept for a shooting line. I don’t have all the stuff here in Belize. I would need to get some 500lb hollow spectra to stuff the 400 lb shooting up in to, i would then splice that in to some 1400 lb dyneema as the 500 lb spectra is very thin. I would want the spliced loop in the dyneema come off the rear of the gun 30" or so and this would allow you to clip on your float line to your shooting line behind your body and well out of the way. It would attach to the line release with a small loop of bungee.
Neptonics sells a cool set up that allows you do this; personally I don’t think it is as slick as wind on style shooting line. I would call it a wrap on leader if it had to be named.

    It is GREAT!
I have it mounted to a wood gun.
No kills at this point, not one bat thing to say. Shipping and ordering was flawless.
I have 2.2 mm Dyneema. The Dyneema has a splice and it goes thru the guide very smooth.
The splice is the way to go for connecting to your shooting line as well.
    Clean

    Hey Tom
I am up in San Pedro. PM me up if you are up this way.
BZ Man and i are in the test phase of our guns.
Should be good to go by next week.

I have never been a part of any forum or even face book. I have looked at other forums and I see allot of elitism. Especially towards guys who may not know about all the gear.

I got in to archery a few years back, guys at archery shops have that same since of elitism. If you don’t know about or have the hottest setup they just turn their nose at you and even tell you how shitty your gear is, no matter how much you like the sport.

I have seen the same enthusiasm on speardiver for the guy who shot a 14 " snapper with a pole spear as a guy achieving his lifelong spear fishing goal.
    This place really is cool.

Hank ill have to come down there for some R&D. haha

Both my parents operate small Biz. A am all about the lil guy.

My pop has a machine shop I just wish it was in Belize.
    Thanks for the help
    You fellas s are great.
    Spear diver reel, final answer!

    Mako is OUT!
On the Wong the Seardiver and the Rob A. the reels seems to come off by removing the drag screw and the line gide remains.
Is the line guide removed by a few screws ?Or dose it slide off?

No love for the Salvimar Reel ???

    Thanks Guys

I am looking at a new reel for a gun that i currently have under construction.
I have it down to a Mako MAKO South African 70M High Capacity Reel (with rapid deployment on/off) (For Wood guns, Hybrids and Railguns)
    or Salvimar Reel Spearfishing Reels
I will be placing an order with Neptonics and that is the reel they sell.
I need a reel that is easy to remove. I if i do any spear fishing not on the island i live on my gun must go on a plane for travel. I take the reel and handle off my gun a put it in a PVC tube, works fine.
My current reel needs to have the line 3/4 removed to get to the screws, a MESS to say the least.
Once the new gun is built, the old one will be permanently retired.

I know the mako is easy to remove and possibly too easy. Looks like you can just bump it off.

Anyone have the Salvimar? Is it easily removed for travel and easily reattached?

    Nice trip Hank
Have some family in town and am trying out a new boat/Cap.
You know the drill 300 BZ to go to the reef for the day +++++. I have been tring to get around that for some time now. Ill let you know how this new guy is.

    PANAMA
Look at Bahia Honda. New development in the north. You could be on the Hannibal bank or Cobia Island and be back at home in the same day. Last I heard a few years ago it was just getting started.
I was there for 3 months in 2003 and the fishing was Awesome. Saw a Wahoo in the first 30 seconds of my first dive. And it just got better from there. 200 + lb Tuna and TOOOO many others to name

I live in Belize and I don’t recommend it for retirement.
