Very nice work on the mount and fish.:thumbsup2:

Could you create a small video to show how your camera placement does not impede the loading process? Don't' completely load the gun of course. I would just like to visualize how the "tucked in" placement is better than a little more offset from the centerline when pulling your bands back.

I remember being very young (and a lot dumber than now:D) and getting a good lesson about not spearfishing inside this boundary in the early 90s. I was spearfishing (well, in the water with spearguns not catching a thing :atongue:) with a friend who found some culverts off the coast of Naples. It was murky as hell and I swear I could hardly see the end of my speargun with my arm stretched. Plenty of life but couldn't figure out how to shoot them in those conditions. Lawenforcment pulled up to us and was going to give us a break but they said they had to cite us for not having a dive flag :@ the flag pole was up but our flag had blown away. That required a mandatory court appearance and I lived in Miami.

Case was dismissed and a very good lesson learned early :thumbsup2:

Guys, I ran into this article today and thought I would share. Looks like Spearfishing is allowed again in Collier County after more than 60 years:
Spearfishing to be allowed in Collier County on June 30 » Naples Daily News

Seems to me the reason they did it is mainly to control the lionfish population. If spearfishing does happen to eradicate their population I often wonder how much worse will spearfishing be perceived by those opposed. I really think nature has its way to balance these sort of situations out. Similar to how a colder than usual winter in 2010 killed most of the invasive Burmese Pythons living in Everglades.

I also use and extension cord holder for a line spool, but i had to zip tie two together to make it strong enough. If you're just using it for floatline it may be fine. I use mine as a tag line and anchor line spool sometimes and it ripped the little extensions off, letting the line unfurl

Thanks:thumbsup2: I didn't even think of using that extension holder as the spool. In my mind I guess I discarded the idea early on based on how flimsy it is so I was only using it for storing the line while I come up with something but your suggestion of using two of them might make it adequately strong enough to not collapse on itself. I think one might be to weak.:confused1:

I won't be using as an anchor.

    Hey guys,

I’ve been lurking in here for some time now and I’ve learned a great deal from all of you who take the time to share your experiences so I want to say thanks, first and foremost. Life is simply to short to learn on my mistakes only ;)

I have started to make myself an inexpensive floatline and I’m still struggling with a few topics that I can’t seem to find discussed in the forums and hope to get some advice on the build.

The float line is to serve me while reef spearing at 10-70ft off Miami and the Keys. The goal is to make as inexpensive float line as possible without sacrificing proper function.

I’ve read about the tube style and poly rope and I decided to make it out of the latter simply because of how inexpensive it is and that some say it works well enough. Here is what I have so far (ignore the existing clip as I think most will agree it does not provide a secure attachment):

I used a Brummel splice on each end. Here is a good explanation that does not require for the whole line to be pulled through second hole:
Brummel | How to Make a Brummel Eye Splice | Splicing Knots

    Topics that I’m struggling with:
1 - The rope I used is a yellow ¼ diameter hollow braid polypropylene and its rate at 110lbs of “working load”. Any experience or opinions on how well this rope will work?

2 - I can’t seem to find a good discussion about how to finish the ends. Things like the use of swivels on one end or both? If one side will suffice then which side (float or gun)?

3 - Should I splice in the swivels directly to the float line or should I attach them with SS shackles? I’m thinking shackles may cause less abrasion of the poly rope and give me a simple way to change out the clips but they may cause unnecessary bulk and/or complexity to the rig. I believe in the KISS principle and I’m not sure there may be a need for these advantages.

4 - What clips would work best? I’ve read about “tuna” clips and the possibility of them releasing their grip. Are they acceptable when clipped to a float’s D-ring? I see Dan’s clip and believe it is wise a choice especially in the float line to gun attachment.

5 - Should I have the attachment hardware (clip) on the gun/float or float line side?

6 - I like the idea of a spool to only use the amount of line needed for a particular dept as Dan uses here. Dan, do you still use this system and is anyone else here using it?

    Thanks,
    Alfred

I only looked into it with my son when it came out and at the time he didn't seem interested. To me it seemed to complicated and they didn't' have a whole lot of a game selection as most new consoles do when they roll out but that might have changed. In addition, my understanding is the the Wii U can play Wii games as long of you have the Wii controllers.

I want to say this was last year right before x-mass or maybe it was the year before (time flies). It also seems that most of his school friends have the other consoles from conversions we've had but he is close to the high end of the age range of what your looking for.

i would probably suggest a Nintendo Wii. Not the newest most powerful system but full of non-violent games that are suitable for younger kids

    X2 for the Wii.
Wishihadgills nailed it. My son has enjoyed it for about 3 or4 years and IMO it has the most age suitable games in comparison to other systems.

Shades in mask, Drumming on rocks with shaft, Strumming a speargun, Breakdancing headspin. You sir have made my freaking week. Thank you, Thank you & Thank you :laughing3: :toast:

    Just picked mine up today.

Tried the L and felt good.
Tried the XL and felt even better. The XL still fit snug and next to no restriction when taking a deep breath.

    Thanks again Dan:thumbsup2:

    Dan,

    Absolutely beautiful guns!!! :toast:

I'll be in the market for a new gun in a couple of months (fingers crossed) and these are by far the best looking guns I’ve ever seen.

I remember holding what I think was a prototype while I was at Speardiver HQ. Is there anything you can share about the design changes in the final product?

    Congrats!!! :thumbsup2:

I've been using a Garmin 545s for two years and I'm very happy with it. It has a very simple menu system and it just works. I also recently got the BlueChart g2 Vision card and it added some neat new functionalities like "Guide To" that will consider safe navigation depths to route you to your waypoints. It also gives you some other point of views when in navigation mode as well as Arial shots of harbors and marinas.

    Hank,

I have a jbl competition magnum xhd and the tube has always flooded. I recently used Marine silicone to try and seal it but I have not tested it yet. Mine has a very heavy 3/8 shaft and three 16mm bands which equal to some nasty recoil. I nearly knocked my teeth out once with it. :@ My fault but if yours has a heavy shaft also you might want to be extra careful. Personally I hate mine but I have not completely given up on it yet. I recently grinded and polished the notches on the shaft to accept soft wishbones but there are so many things wrong with the gun that I’m not sure if it’s something that I’ll ever be able to fix enough to consider keeping.

If anyone knows of any worthwhile modifictions that could be done to these guns, I'd love to hear them.:thumbsup2:

Good luck with yours and keep us updated on how it goes.
