I used duct tape. One small strip on either side of the center line.
I find that the quick release mounts are inherently a little wobbly

I haven't really noticed any wobble on mine. Maybe because I use the little nose plug looking thing?:confused1:

Here is what the POV shot looks like@ 720P Wide:

To prevent this you could use this: Recoil Keeper for GoPro
or for some really hardcore action: something like this: DeepBlue - GoPro - Accessori - Filippo Bertocci

Thanks for the links. The first one seems like such a simple solution.:thumbsup2:

Can you show your mount... always open to some ideas... (I'm doing one for airguns , as we speak, that I might adapt for pipe guns)

I'm almost embarrassed to show my mount in your thread. :ashamed: Nowhere near the ingenuity you have put into your mount.

I used a piece of ¼ inch white acrylic I had left over from mounting a stereo on my boat. I cut out the shape and heated it with a propane torch to mold it around a 2 inch pipe (very similar in size to the air chamber in this pneumatic). I then wrapped 3m rubber tape (Part# 2242) around the gun at the contact points where I put the SS hose clamps. I used the flat base GoPro mount and its holding well. Simple and crude with lots of room for improvements.

    Marginatus,
That was a great video. It’s exactly what I wanted to see. Thank you. :thumbsup2:
I wonder why so many mounts are created so that the camera is further from the gun? :confused1: I built my mount that way also and I’m considering redoing it after seeing your video. The POV angle on your looks so much better!:toast:
I noticed the recoil of your gun pushed your camera forward a very small amount @1:18
Do you do anything special to reduce this from happening? I've tightened mine so much I'm afraid to break it and even still the recoil moves my camera forward when I fire it.

Thanks again and great job on the mount.:notworthy3:

Got a chance to take the float line out yesterday and I happy with the results.
    It performed well IMO. :)
    The line floats.
    It has very little drag.
Only had one simple knot that I was able to undo with one hand after spending about 6 hours in the water and I have no doubt it could have been avoided. I had way to much of the line trailing around at this point and I think with some practice it will become second nature to keep most of the line close to me.
Unfortunately, I left my GoPro running and was not able to get any decent filming done before the battery ran out.:(

The only changes I might be doing to it to split it into different lengths but not yet. I'm going to keep trying the spooled approach. It really was not hard to dragging it around but then again the current wasn't bad.;)

You guys rock:thumbsup2: I can't believe the suggestions keep on flowing. :)

I'm really digging this idea LB. Any idea how many pounds of lift on the surface?

TRy to get this float. It's what we use here in Venezuela for wahoos up to 80 Pounds.

    5-7/8" x 13-3/4" Bullet Nose / Crabbing Float, Orange

Do you only use one of these floats or do you attach multiple ones? Can you share how they go attached to the float line?

    Thanks,
    Alfred

Looks like it will get the job done. Nothing like the satisfaction of getting fish with gear you made yourself:toast:

    No doubt John:toast:

    Looks great Sith, nice job!
You might want to think about putting the float end clip onto the swivel as having the snap on the float may prove inconvenient.

Thanks George! Can you elaborate on why that snap tied to the float side would be inconvenient.:confused1: I did it this way thinking if I needed to attach one line to another, it could be done with minimal hardware.

I like how it came out. Only would change the float by a "Bullet shape" lobster buoy. Less than 10$ at fishing supplies.

Thanks Marco. I do plan to change the float. I'm only using this buoy temporarily to test the floatline. I'm thinking of getting a rigid float as opposed to to an inflatable because I think it will have less drag and I don't plan to travel with it.
Don't forget to share the pictures of your RA floatlines. :)

Here is what it looks like all hooked up:

As I mentioned before I still don't have a proper float so I'll be improvising with this inflatable water ski marker to see how well the float line behaves. Weather permitting, I'll get some salt on it this coming Saturday and report back.

    Breakdown of parts and costs:
$8.78 - 1/4 Polypropylene Rope 100ft. (I think this could be a lot less. I just didn't shop around. Try Home Depot or Harbor Freight)
$13.00 - #10 "ball bearing" Swivels with welded rings x2.
$9.00 - Speardiver Locking Stainless Steel Snaps X2.
    $30.78 - Subtotal.
$5.00 - Add some tax and or freight
    $36.00 - is a rough total cost.

The least expensive float line I found was the RA line and in the 100ft length even with a discount your looking at around 45 bucks and you only get one swivel and one "tuna" clip. Lets hope my poly rope performs well ;)

Not bad Seth. In a pinch you can use a zip tie for a similar effect, of course it's not nearly as streamlined. BTW I remembered I have those swivels if you need them. They're 600lb if I remember right. They've been sitting around for 4 years, I forgot to put them in the store, as with a few other things..

Thanks Dan. Good to know you have the swivels also. How much are they? Considering how difficult it was to source them it's a good idea to have some in the parts and supplies box. Plus I might put together another small float line for my son soon.

Nice floatline and some great info in this thread. Personally, I try to avoid the metal on metal connections and use a two inch loop of dyneema to attach tuna clips and swivels to my float lines.

    Thanks ladvr:)
Why do you use the Dyneema loop? Is noise an issue or just to simplify the build? I figured it just adds yet another failure point to the rig.:confused1:

    Welcome Bimfisher. :)
I wish I could add to the suggestions but at this point my experience is limited in the guns you're referring to. What I can say, is that if you do find one of these guns to fit your needs, then buy with confidence that your purchasing a quality product from a company that stands behind it's products :toast:

    Awesome feedback guys:thumbsup2:

I was following this thread on my cell phone today and kept going back and forth on how I would finally put it together. But I kept changing my mind as the thread progressed so I didn't do anything today. I wanted to see how it played out before I made a decision.

Here is what I’m thinking based on everyone’s input:

    • Although I do want to keep this float line as inexpensive as possible, I believe using a swivel on each side is going to go a long way in keeping this line from tangling. So a swivel on each end will stay.
      • Because I will predominantly be fishing from my boat (I too keep tools onboard) the quick links John mentioned seem like a good option. Especially to create that smooth transition between the connections. The dilemma I have at the moment is weather the streamlining gained by using the quick links vs. Dan’s clips is worth pulling those tools out in order to organize things when back on the boat. I’m really nuts about keeping things organized  and I like being able to do that quickly. Especially in rough conditions or in the event of an emergency. (I’m leaning toward Dan’s clips on this one).
      • I definitely don't want any additional hardware on the gun side. But I’m not sure how I’ll attach the clips to swivels yet. When I fist read George’s suggestion of using split rings I really liked it but when John talked about streamlining those connections and how he didn’t like shackles because they can hurt you, I thought about how most split rings have a sharp edge and this could get caught on your glove or hand. So I’m leaning toward George’s other suggestion of using cordage.

And then there is what Reefchief brought up about being able to remove the eye from Dan’s snaps.:thumbsup5: This would throw all of the above out and the window because I could then simply attach the snaps to the existing welded rings on the swivels and be done. ;) The only thing I’d lose with this method is the ability to keep the snap oriented with the small side toward the floatline which I think is important.
    [/LIST]

I am currently using a RA floattline with little mod's. I'll take a picture today to show you how it is. My kid's floatlines are Polypro made by myself. I'll take pictures too.

Looking forward to your pics Marco.

    Thanks everyone! :toast2:

George, attaching the clips to the float line would definitely be an improvement.:toast:
So split rings between swivel and permanent side of the clip and cordage with Double Fisherman's knot on gun?

    Thanks for the advise Marco:)

I continued searching for affordable swivels today and found these "ball bearing" swivels at El Capitan (Main Store). They didn't have them on display. I had to ask one of the guys and they had them behind the counter. At almost 7 bucks a each I can see why. Even at that price they where almost half the price of the dive shop swivels.:thumbsup2:

I also got my "DAN Clips" today in the mail so it was time put it together.:excited1:

Here is how it turned out:

If anyone has any advice or thoughts on how this thing can be improved, I will welcome it.

Haven't decided on a float or a way to have the line spooled yet.... Shure would be nice to have a float that you can spool the line on also.:thumbsup1:

Thanks for the input guys. I really appreciate it :thumbsup2:

This line is a very loose 8 strand hollow braid rope. To me it does seem very different than the RA twist line. I didn't know that the weave effects its tendency to tangle. I'll give it a try as version 1.0 and see how things go.

    No its DANS clips. [D]ual [A]ction [N]evergonnaletgobeachdivingandmakeyougetindansboatandgofindyourfloat5milesoffshore [S]naps

:laughing3: I can see that name sticking.

    Update:

I decided to use Dan's snaps. they're ordered and in route :)

I went to West Marine & El Capitan (south) yesterday and they didn't have the swivels big enough. I think I'm looking for a size 10? So I headed to a local dive shop and I found them but....... $26 for two swivels I think is nuts  so I didn't buy them. I figuered someone has to have them at a fair price but I don't know where else to check:confused1:?
