Very nice looking gun. It hides quite a bit of technology while looking very simple. Nice!!
Thank you!

I had to take a second look at that video #2. The still shot on 9:30 shows the bottom side of the double roller guns.

48" single roller
Since everyone here loves rollers, I thought I'd share this one too.:) I've been out of commission for a while and I am finally getting around to working on it a little each day. Helps keep my spirits up since I can't go in the water just yet.
Was planning another double roller but decided after the last one that I wanted a rear handle reef gun. The bottom 3/16" pins are placed in an angle in wood. I also routed a 1/2" cove so that the wish bone can sink in deeper against the wood. A suggestion someone gave me which seems to work well. Just covered it up with some delrin to keep the bottom band from falling off.

Updated pics on gun. Still not tested yet as surgery is keeping me out of the water.

I think if they advertised that gun in that manner, their sales would skyrocket. Who cares if its a Fiat...I mean a roller. lol

Had to thin out the handle a bit by trimming some of it on the router table. I then used instamorph to get the shape I want. After which I coated it with some plasti-dip.

Very interesting way to load the bottom bands. Cool looking gun.

Ladiver, I think this will be an effective blue water or WSB gun. It has over 70" of band pull.
Don, thanks for the clarification. I don't think I can do anything with it at this point. The rollers are bearing rollers and are pretty narrow. They are also in line with the wood or slightly higher so routing out a track to keep them apart probably won't do any good. Definitely something to keep in mind for the next one.
Reef, I went with Delrin to keep the weight in the muzzle in check. I wouldn't go any narrower than that. For my intended use, it will be a single band. I would only use the second one for blue water. Actually a single band and first stage for reef shooting and put it on the second stage for amberjacks or if I need a little more reach.

Man my head was spinning after looking at that picture. I had to google it and saw the yotube vids. It looks like he uses lines underneath the gun and comes back up to load on the shaft. Basically a 4 roller set up. Wow, very impressive.
I'm like you Steve, trying to keep it simple.....but the challenge....well, that's just fun. Ofcourse I have limited tools- hand tools, drill press, saw and router table- and that adds to the challenge as well. delrin is very user friendly and I was concerned about having too much weight up front. My pevious roller design was a single roller single action.
I built the same band retainer for another diver on his roller gun and heard that the lines got tangled somehow as he was shooting in a downward angle. It shoots fine shooting horizontally, but for some reason the lines got caught shooting downwards.

Not quite sure what you mean here, Don? Is this due to the bands making contact with one a other? The rollers are off the shelf from WM and I can not do much with them. They are narrow and is the reason I used them. The wood that's between the rollers are 3/4" wide and I wouldn't be comfortable with anything less. All that said, the muzzle on these rollers can get pretty wide and I was trying to keep it as tight as possible. I guess something has to give.
I was hoping that the bands would lay a little differently on the bottom but no matter which bands I load first, the results seem to be the same. So I adjusted it with varying the wishbone length. Will water help lubricate the friction between bands?
Thanks,

Hi wrasselim ,man where is the line anchor, .?
There is no line anchor. It is set up for reel or break away.

Undersea,
I found this design on another board. Looks to do a very good job of solving the line wrap and anchor issues.
I turned the right roller keeper to a dual function line wrap anchor. don't know how it works yet as I have not fired the gun.... at least not with loaded bands. The lines do fall off nicely though when I pull the trigger when the lines are routed.

Cool build Steve. I found that there's definitely a lot more kinks to work out on roller builds.

Hey guys. Just wanted to show the work I have in progress. I still need to clean it up a bit more and then put some protective coating on it. The primary goal with this build was to try and prevent things from getting snagged. It started out as a double roller single action but with the difficulty I had trying load the bands, it needed to be a double action. I didn't see any other way to solve that problem.

I've used this technique with several oil finished guns I have with good results. A long process though.

Nice table! I think that it will see quite a few guns being made on it. Just wait till you're finished with your first one.
For a shark spike, I used a ss stand off one time that Woodguy clued me in on for use on roller guns. It was only 1/4" but it is able to be screwed on and off. I think McMaster might have them in larger diameters. The guy I built the gun for says that it's working out fine. He has had to fend off an unwanted visitor already with it. Don't know how it would hold up with a PH though.
