thanks Don , my dad did say that the band guns that he said was loud was the Champion aluminium closed muzzle guns with a metal wishbone that his brother [ my uncle] used and '' extended'' with aluminium tubing , by the way we spoke to a dive shop and they said the champion speargun design is now used by Beuchat .

hi guys , i just spoke to my dad and he told me the speargun he used in the 80's was the longest available Mares Nimrod pneumatic , because of the use of this gun he swears by pneumatic spearguns because he said the Nimrod was the quietest speargun compaired to band guns . was this speargun particularly quiet [ compared to a Riffe standard ] just to settle the discussion because online guys always say the band guns a quieter . :confused1:

your'e probably right , four bands is a lot of force and teak is not the strongest of woods . better to be safe , but isn't three bands enough, then again more bands is almost always better .
-
i love your reels , they look like a much higher build quality than the normal speargun reels .
-
i see , maybe you can leave it uncut and test it with the four bands until you are satisfied with the taper , although that does mean loading the gun out of the water [ be careful ] but i think its best to go slow and taper then test and so on because each blank is 170 a pop if i remember correctly . Good luck with your build by the way . looking forward to seeing the end results .

why not follow the minimum thickness of an adequate Riffe standard model like the #5 Baja Plus
-
trust me , i know what its like to work without the right tools and some times its good to out source some things.

Dan , i forgot to ask , seeing that i am making my own handle , i want to follow how you did yours [ mortise ] . What thickness board did you use to make your mortise handle and did it last [ strong ].

shaft guide looks like a good idea to upgrade a cheap aluminium closed muzzle gun to a open muzzle to perform more like a high end gun .
