It's been a long time since I posted on this thread, as work and other things have gotten in the way of spearfishing for me.
A couple of my friends had caught some nice fish recently though! I thought I'd share photo's of their catch since they're not on Speardiver yet. All of these fish were landed in the waters of Sharjah, UAE at depths ranging from 5 to 8 metres.

Here's my dive buddy Kyriakos with a monster cobia he shot (with a Rob Allen 110) at the same spot:

Her's another buddy of mine, Lawrence, with a Pompano and an Indian Mirror Fish he shot (with an 85cm Salvimar Roller gun):

I've gone for a few short dives recently, but with no luck. I'll be going to a new spot this weekend, so I hope to run into some nice fish there! :)

Here's a Warmoth Strat I put together. It's not rocket science since they do such a find job building the components. I've actually changed this one though. It has a neck with a rosewood fretboard now and a Hipshot tremolo I took off a Peavey guitar I have. I traded a Wilkenson, like the gold one on this one It plays and feels as good as any Strat I pulled of the rack in a Guitar Center. IT plays well....I don't.

That's a beautiful strat you have there, Hank! I'm a sucker for gold hardware! And it looks like a great "workhorse"/daily guitar, if you know what I mean. :thumbsup5:

Welcome Royak, great place to be. Hey Nish, u mentioned u are a fan of Death...i grew up with Shannon Hamm (guitarist from last album & Control Denied) since the 1st grade. He lives up here where im at in Cocoa area. Met Chuck several times before he passed (what a loss, great guy!!) Anyway, enjoy Royak, these guys are great around here.

You knew Shannon Hamm! That's insane!:thumbsup2: And you met Chuck! Chuck Schuldiner is possibly my biggest influence in terms of compositions! I'm also one of the biggest Death fans in the UAE! My old death metal band covered a few songs by Death a few years ago at some gigs in Dubai. Here's a blurry shaky cam video of us covering "story to tell" by Death back in 2010! I'm the skinny guy with the black yamaha guitar (on the right of the video, next to the bassist):D

Thanks creole5! Hey nish going back to the bands you listen to, I'm only familiar with Morbid Angel tbh. Those sound like some old school death bands. I use to listen to classic rock (Zeppelin is my favorite band) and then I branched to metalcore (BFMV, ATR, AILD, KsE). Now I mainly play and listen to blues and flamenco.

Royakdiver, that's great! I like Killswitch Engage as well. Ofcourse, nowadays, even I'm into classic rock. I guess that's what happens when we get older :D. I don't think I'd ever stop listening to death metal though!

What do you consider to be heavy?

I LOVE death metal! Bands like Death, Morbid Angel, Necrophagist, Obscura (more tech death though).
I also enjoy some Prog rock and Progressive metal!
I try to listen to a large variety of music, but I suppose my 'main genre' of interest has to be metal!

It doesn't stop me from playing in a traditional rock band though!:D

I couldn't agree with you more, the internet and even youtube have helped guitarists learn to play. I've seen young kids on youtube shredding harder than Eddie Van Halen or Paul Gilbert. I used to play a lot more but when I want to learn a song I'll visit the ultimate guitar page:D

Haha yeah, I agree about the kids on youtube! They're insane!
I suppose a derail into music isn't bad at all! :thumbsup2:
I've played guitar with a few bands here, but I've mainly played heavier stuff :devil1:

I'd like to start a music thread on SD. It would be nice sharing youtube links of artists and bands that we listen to. Would be quite interesting.

Either way, Royakdiver, I can't wait to see some dead fish pics!:thumbsup2:

    Marco, Thanks, man! :)
After recalling the shape of the tail, it was probably a greater barracuda, or a large milkfish. I ruled out spanish mackerel because the tail was not too pointy, and I've seen some big spanish macks at that spot before, so I know their general shape. It could also be a big queenfish, but I can't be too sure.

Dude george, I'm not sure what species of barracuda they are, but I saw a LOT of juvenile ones of the same species swimming peacefully there too. It's funny how cute juvenile barracuda look, as compared to the larger ones. I'm not sure how much bigger this species of barracuda get, but they don't get too large (from what I've seen in the fish markets in the country).
A friend of mine caught a large greater barracuda in the same murky waters though! It was bigger than him, and fat! I can't imagine bumping into that in the murk!
I suppose that's why I use a 110 cm gun in bad viz here, as you can land monster fish here in less than 7 metres depth! We need the penetration power:D! An arab guy caught a 25+kg cobia in less than 5m of water recently! Monsters in the murk!

So I went out today morning with a Greek friend of mine.
Water's getting nice and cool, and some good fish are showing up.
Today the viz was pretty 'grainy', because of high winds and some chop. I could see that the water was clearer, but particles were everywhere.
We both caught a nice barracuda each! :)
I saw something MASSIVE in the water just before leaving, but I just saw it's tail. It would have been over 20 kilo's for sure! The viz didnt allow me to identify it properly though.
My friend saw a big spanish mackerel as well, but it swam out of visible range very quickly.
Regardless, it was a nice day in the water, and here's a pic of both of us with our catch! (I'm the one with the super short blue shorts lol). They're around 2.5 to 3 kg's each.

I know how that feels, Marco. I've lost a couple of grouper and a big snapper myself because of belly shots :(.
I hope that fish lives and continues to frequent that structure. In fact, such a big specimen must be quite resilient. So I believe there's a high chance it's healing and hunting some fish right now!

Had one take the biggest mangrove snapper I've ever seen/shot about a month ago. I was laying in the sand and the jewfish lined up next to me, watched me shoot and went straight in for it.

Wow! Sounds like jewfish have the potential of being real pests for spearo's there!
I hope they're not associating humans with a free meal!
