    Rollerguns are the future!
    Great gun, man!
Now time to hunt with it! A friend of mine recently switched from a 110 railgun to an 85cm roller, and is loving it for hunting pelagics in 3m viz!

Nice boat! I've seen videos of filipino fisherman taking these boats quite far out. Seems quite stable.
It also has a lot of character, I must say!

Nice. It was like being there.
if I'm on the surface they come right up to me and swim around. But the minute I dive down…….POOF !….they're gone.

The same thing happens in UAE waters with Sea Breams and Mangrove Snappers in the shallows. I hate taking surface shots, I always seem to miss. When I dive, they're gone.

Sorry for the derail chase. Awesome video! The water looks super inviting!

Nice video with some really nice and relaxing music!:thumbsup2:
Jacks fight quite hard for their size! I believe this video correctly demonstrates how to get a hold of speared fish.

I'm pretty sure some stuff I ordered (black and waxy feeling) online was polyester and I HATE it. I've seen similar stuff loaded on older Omer match reels that's why I think it's the same stuff. Anyways I might be wrong

Why do you hate the line, Steven? What exactly do you not like about it?

Polyester line is usually jacketed no? That tends to kink more than %100 spectra line. Also its always round whereas spectra can settle flat, allowing more line on the reel at the same "diameter", and having a more convenient surface area for handling.

Prom experience cutting many different types of line designated for marine use, I can tell you that even with good sharp shears it takes more effort to cut the Spectra. You have to get it just right between the two blades before you snip, otherwise it will wedge in the shears and only fray instead of cut cleanly. This to me says something about the abrasion resistance of Spectra/Dyneema vs anything else.

Those are all things in favor of Spectra so I'm not sure why anyone would use Polyester, unless price is an issue but Spectra is not that expensive.

I think you're right, Dan. Spectra or dyneema are definitely better alternatives. I was considering polyester line for another shorter gun, for off-season spearfishing, when the only fish we run into here are sea breams, snappers and groupers. I suppose I brought it up because I wanted to know how this type of line performed as a reel line.

Also, I had a look at the link. It's 2mm, but has a 90kg breaking strength. A Dyneema or Spectra 2mm line would have 300-500kg breaking strength. Doesn't really matter unless you're hanging on with all your strength being towed around, your reel is spooled, and all that stands between you and the fish of your life is 60-100yds of Reel line..

Yeah, breaking load wouldn't matter too much unless I'm shooting HUGE fish. I've felt the line... seems fairly durable. But if it's a "spiderweb of death" as you said, I might as well avoid it!

    Hey Everyone!
A buddy of mine has some black polyester line that came along with his Omer Reel.
I've also seen similar line on a friend's Cressi reel gun.

I've always thought that Dyneema/Spectra lines were the only way to go for spearfishing purposes. Yet certain manufacturers supply reels pre-loaded with polyester lines. Thing is, I haven't really found any accounts of people describing their experiences with polyester line as reel line. It seems fairly robust, maybe not for huge fish, but for general reef spearfishing.

    PS, I suppose it looks like this Beauchat line;
Beuchat Black Polyester Line 2mm - Spearfishing World

Has anyone here used polyester line as reel line on a speargun for a long period of time? How was your experience using this line? How was it's abrasion resistance? Has anyone's reel lines ever snapped due to excessive load?

Reason I'm asking is because I was considering getting a spool of the stuff, for another gun.

Thanks in Advance, A touch of info on spice and methods would be great too. I like to try different styles at times.

Hopefully your Mommas helped train you guys how to cook.

    Hey Linghunt,

Most meats in our household are cooked in a spicy style, with a lot of "Garam Masala" powder (a mix of ground red chillies, turmeric, and other spices). In fact, for fish, my mum marinates whole fish or fillets in a dash of vinegar, salt, pepper, garam masala, and then cooks it in different styles (fried, with gravy, etc.)
Personally, I prefer more simpler ways of preparing fish, with just salt and pepper:).

Nish, what part of India are you from? I spent time between Visakaputnam and Chenai (formerly Madras) down to Tuticorin back in the early 90s. Made four trips there working for Indian Tobacco Co looking for shrimp hatchery sites.

But the food…..whooaaaa. Really good. But the guys that are here and own this shrimp farm are Muslim and from the SW side. They only eat meat and rice pretty much It's ok but the food on the east side was way better. More vegetables. And the ….curd?….like sour cream?….with doll….or some kind of spiced bean….my mouth is watering thinking about it.

So yeah, share some of your secrets. :thumbsup2: I had some really tasty fish there too.

    Hey Hank,

I'm from Mangalore, a coastal city on the West coast of India, located a little south of Goa. The food all over the south of India is fairly similar in style, especially the vegetarian food (Dosa's, Idli's, dal, etc.). Fish and meats are cooked somewhat differently though (all styles being fairly spicy!). Also, smaller fish species (indian mackerel, sardines, anchovies) are far more popular in comparison to larger species. I don't know why that is, but I suppose that's just the way it is. The only large species I've eaten in India was Kingfish (spanish Mackerel).

It's a whole different scene here in the UAE though. The Arabs over here LOVE grouper.

Nice posts, Add some pictures of the fish cook and prepared.

Be interesting to see how you prepare them.

Hey Linghunt. I'm Indian, while my buddy with the Cobia is from Cyprus, and my other buddy with the 2 pompanos, he's filipino. So we have very different ways of cooking our catch. I'l take some post-cooked pics next time :).

Nice fish. did you kill that cobia with one shot?

Hey Hank! That's not me with the Cobia, It's my buddy Kyriakos. Yes, he stoned it! Apparently it was very curious, and came right up to him when he was at the bottom!

Your buddies got some skill getting those amazing fish with small guns...yes I!

Thanks Dude! The viz in certain spots is pretty bad here, what with the construction of countless man-made islands. The spot where they caught these fish has even worse visibility. A short gun would work well here, the ideal length being 110cm for clearer waters as well. Lawrence has caught some big fish with his 90cm Cressi comanche as well! Here's a not-so-clear video of his shooting a spanish mack at the same murky spot.

HOLD ON A MINUTE!!! CHUCK SCHULDINER????!!! From "Death"???? I didn't know he played for "Control Denied".... For crying out loud I have his guitar, the B.C. Rich Stealth TNT!!! You just inspired me to finish this guitar. I bought this bad girl about four years ago (NEW) and I immediately began modding it. I switched the EMG 81 pu to the neck and the EMG 85 pu to the bridge for a heavier sound. I swapped the Floyd rose trem block for a "big block" brass trem block and never finished the 18v battery mod on it. I still need to dremel some wood in the trem cavity to have more room to dive-bomb.

Creole, it's great that you had the opportunity to meet Chuck, I'm not familiar with all his music but I do respect him because he was a great guitarist!

Nice Stealth! I always wanted that guitar! I'm not a huge fan of BC Rich guitars, but the stealth always had a special place in my heart! I settled with an ibanez xiphos instead!
    One of these:

I block the trem's on my guitars as well! :) But I use whatever I can find to block pull-ups on the trem, and just tighten the heck outta the springs. I've used old credit card bits before! I call it the "ghetto-block" haha!

PS, Death also had some of the best metal musicians in their lineup over the years. The old members of death created great bands like Cynic, Monstrosity, Aeon Spoke, Gordian Knot, etc.
