I've had the very same gun and catched lots of fish with it. For me, the best set-up for that gun is a 6.5-6.6 shaft and 17.5-18 mm short bands. Don't put an additional band in the slot as you won't hit anything.
You can use mono (at least 1.8 mm) in your reel, but I recommend dyneema of 1.7-2 mm. Fill the reel as much as you can, 150 feet minimum. Better safe than sorry.
Post some pictures when you return from Thaiti!

Hi Pete,
Have you seen the pneumatic guns modifications made by Duccio Lippolis in Italy?
IMHO he's one of the best at doing that.

There is a very good spearo in Venezuela that lost his arm when he was a kid. He has a little 1 foot pice from the shoulder. Actually, he is a scuba and freediving/spearfishing instructor. He uses pneumatic spearguns.
Recently, he went into a prostate cancer surgery...

I lived in Puerto Rico for 7 years (miss those waters, btw). Now I'm located in Miami.
Permit is a very good fish to eat. I think now it is illegal to spear over there, so you better don't put any pictures in the SM.
Congrats!

Pathos pockets are nice after you adapt them to your feet. There are several metods. I used boiling water.
They are very light thoug and let the blades "work" without restriction.
I can't help you with the size, but as a guide, I wear a 10 US / 42 Euro and use 42-44 with 3 mm soxs.

They all pretty much the same inside. Problem with them is the handling.

I like to eat urchin. Actually is the eggs (roe) what you eat. And an Italian prosecco is the best way to pair it.

It certainly looks cool. I don't think anyone in the USA has used one.
