http://www.onlinemetals.com/merchant.cfm?pid=4475&step=4&showunits=inches&id=7&top_cat=0 what are the benefits of heat treatment. I wasn't really considering it because it would increase the cost of the spears, I also don't know where to take them. I might rig a shooting line to one or two of the spears, but one of the things that I like about the sling is the challenge of freeshafting.

I recently got the chance to try a Hawaiian sling on a recent trip to the Bahamas and had a blast, so I decided that I wanted one for the next Bahamas trip. But since I know that I'm going to be bending a few shafts I'm thinking about making the shafts myself. My plan is to get the steel from http://onlinemetals.com, what alloy should I use? I was thinking 316. the diameters would be 1/4" for hogs and mutton and 5/16 for those big groupers. I'm not sure where to get the floppers, does Florida freedivers carry them, or is will I have to order them too? Any input is appreciated.

Great idea. How difficult is it to make the new weights? I paid 27$ for the 6 pounds that I wear on my weight belt.

I decided before I started this gun that I wanted some kind of depiction of a wahoo on it somewhere. Abalone inlays were too expensive and I don't have the time or resources to make my own, so I decided to simply paint one in white. I wasn't thrilled with how they came out at first, but after putting a clear coat of epoxy over the gun I feel alot better about them.Sorry for the crappy pics, I'll post better ones asap. I'm also going to paint the name of my family's boat (Tuna Time) on the handle, pics later tonight.

it's supposed to be black, but with only two coats it looks dark brown. I know the pics are hard to see, it's because of the dark finish and the crappy lighting in my garage. I'll post better pics when i'm done with the epoxy and I can bring it inside.

Almost done got the band hole cut and the first two coats of epoxy on and ballasted.

the trigger in the pic needs to be cut down flush with the stock, I'm just a little scared to take a grinder to my 85$ trigger:@

Thanks, added the pushrod, pushrod retainer, cut the line release slot and pined the line release.

Thank god it's finally summer; I'm home from college and had a chance to get some work done on the gun. Got the enclosed track routed and the trigger mech pinned

both of Dave's fish were bigger than mine, I think they were around 30 lbs.

I kill them whenever I see them. They are edible, but you have to know what you're doing when you clean them.

When you're diving with buddies you're not supposed to be rubbing shoulders with them all along the way. You are supposed to maintain a distance which allows for visual communication. You are supposed to coil the float line between dives so you don't have the whole length of it trailing behind you to create drag when you dive, for other divers to cross with their line, or a boat to run over it, and your spotter on the boat to know where exactly you are as opposed to guessing how far you are from your float. Of course the tube style float line is too thick to coil and hold while you're swimming, and too thick to spool. It's funny how the advocates of the tube style float line never do any of these things which I consider extremely inconsiderate. It seems to promote irresponsibility IMO.
the only time that me and my buddy both use floatlines is when we're hunting in bluewater, so we aren't really swimming just drifting most of the time. We always used to have problems with tangled lines when I had a polypro line but we don't anymore.

I like the tube style because it tangles less, especially if you're diving with other people. I used to use a polypro rope and it would always get tangled with my buddy's line.

I've killed a few in the Bahamas I've been trying to post pics but it hasn't been working

It wasn't a very big cuda and he only hit the tip of my fin so he didn't actually hit me, but it was at full speed. I was diving on a hog in the Bahamas when I felt an impact on my right fin. I looked up and what was probably a 2 foot cuda was swimming away. It wasn't a big deal but it made me glad that I didn't have anything shiny on my body.

I'd be careful about hanging that flasher off the handle of your gun. I use aluminum tape on my fins and the tip of my gun and have been hit by barracuda.
