Ok got a little help and figured out where the last few bones went, here she is all done.
-
wrap in newspaper 2 inches thick then vacuum seal and freeze, ship inside one of those cheap foam coolers WELL SEALED and inside a box, preferably ship out on a monday also so it will definitely get to me as fast as possible, the postal service doesnt like leaky stinky packages lol
-
Yeah its pretty standard for fish taxidermy, after all bigger head = bigger headaches lol
-
Ok the price for fish skulls is 10 dollars an inch half up front and half on delivery, turnaround time is anywhere from 1.5 to 3 months depending on how long i have to degrease em.
-
Speaking of cuda heads just finished mine
-
Ok I finished the big ribbonfish (Its a damn dinosaur!) and the cuda just came out of the acetone so ill be whitening it and should have it assembled by the end of the weekend or sometime early next week at the latest. Look at this ribbon, almost 6 3/4 inches!
-
Also have the skull of the biggest ribbonfish ive ever seen macerating right now, damn fish was 3 1/2 feet long with part of its tail bitten off, the head alone is 6 inches or so from tip of nose to back of gillplates and the front fangs are 3/4 inch long
-
Ok so the barracuda skull (or now i should say the pieces thereof) are done macerating and will now be degreasing for a month or so.
-
And I have successfully stabbed myself in the thumb with the barracuda :frustrated1:
-
Thanks guys, as for commissions ive got a big cuda head to do and once i get that all pretty i think I will declare myself ready.
-
Spanish mackerel skull i just did, macerated (basically allowed to rot in warm water, it all falls apart though so you have to like jigsaw puzzles), degreased in acetone and whitened with peroxide.
-
I look forward to seeing that

What I'm taking on next
-
Something i just did for a little practice, Ribbonfish
Started (after cleaning) with this
After a little assembly I have this -
No, I boiled it and it fell apart. Too much work to piece back together. I would try again with the maggot method.
do you still have the pieces?
-
Spikes are some of the tastiest anyway
-
OK, what did you have in mind?
-
That is terrific. Do you make notes or a video of the dissection to refer against for reassembly? I can't imagine that with no instructions
Very nice work.
Do you accept commissioned work? I would love to pay someone else to do this for me hahaha
Ive been doing some research and have a few different things I want to test out to get those nice professional looking lilly white skulls so let me do a couple more first to get my technique down (before i have people shipping me irreplaceable heads in dry ice lol) and then I would gladly accept commissions. And thanks for the compliments guys, overall im pretty happy for a first try. -
Oh and here's a kingfish skull I just finished using the method I outlined earlier.
