This is a really fun thread to follow and it was making me use what's left of my gray matter.

The original query was relating to max velocity of a rubber band and the relative limitations in reaching that speed? :confused1:

I figured if a test was made on a given rubber band.. where the rubber was stretched at 300% then released underwater with no payload (shaft).. that'd be the closest to max speed of the rubber by itself. O_o

Load the same rubber but with a spear shaft and measure it's velocity, then add as many rubber bands as needed to get as close to the max velocity of the initial test? <--- would throw practicality out the window. And yeah, this test is specific to the one rubber band size and shaft size.. :(

But this is all assuming someone had the equipment to run this kind of test. (with SAFETY at the highest priority, of course)

So this test might answer how many bands it would take to shoot a shaft as close to max velocity of a band with no payload? What the shaft does after it leaves the gun is a whole nother issue... :confused1:

If I'm looking at this the wrong way.. just.. tell me to shut up. I'm not as smart.. :D :D

    I have a question..

How long has this type of weight been around?

I ask because I constructed similar style weights from old lead plates from a exercise weight vest sometime late last year and I haven't shared it with anyone..

When I thought it up and made it I felt a lil proud of my cheap ass engineering abilities! :rolleyes1:

Just wanna know who designed it when and if I'm infringing..:confused1: (Thought I was original :()

    Thanks

    Hey guys and gals..
I am a spearfisherman of 2 years and a rod & reel fisherman of 4 years. I love the ocean as do many of you and my only regret is not exposing myself to her earlier in my lifetime.

When I started spearfishing, I merely kicked around in the water as my friends speared fish (FG polespears). I didn't know if I would enjoy the sport. I was just a snorkeler. As I swam around the rocks and reefs I felt a strong pull in my chest. It felt as if this is where I'm supposed to be and I fell in love with her..

I started out as many others started out... cheap gear. I had board shorts and a rash guard, and the $40 snorkeling package at a local sporting goods store. Looking back to that, if I had to do it all over again I wouldn't change a thing. I learned a lot about the importance of quality gear.

    I am a polespear'er for two reasons.
    (1) The polespear is enough for my needs as I fish reefs/jetties.
    (2) I am too poor a college boy to afford/maintain a gun.

I fish around the San Diego North County coastline, but for now my car is broke down and I spend the time that I should be in the water on reading reports and watching spearfish/freedive videos.

Sorry for the long Intro :boring1:, I suck at writing, no one here knows me and I usually lurk the forums. :rolleyes1:

    Ask me anything... :thumbsup2:
