Great tips Mike, much appreciated! We headed out yesterday during high tide and they were almost stacked up on top of each other even though there were bat rays, lots of bait though.

That's a beast right there, great job and congrats on the new PB!

Out of curiosity, do you usually find low tide is a better time to hunt them? I've been trying during high tide and it's been hit or miss... mostly miss.

I'll write some letters telling them I travel and spend a lot of money and would never go to pr if they pass this crap. Where should I send the letters?
+1, just post up some physical and email addresses and I'll get to it asap, I'm sure they're going after spearfishing because you guys will make the least noise being that there's not too many, and then they'll start in on everyone else. I'm planning a PR vacation next summer, would hate to have to head elsewhere...

Great video!

wow man, we certainly do live in a different world huh. privacy is something to work for in this technological future of ours.
For real, I mean who the heck would want their phone tagging their pictures with gps codes in the first place?
-
Wow, that thing's unbelievable! I remember reading the story of the first one that tore off and it just hurt to read, congrats on landing that monster!

That's why it's always a good plan to remove the exif data from photos before posting them online, there's tons of programs that do it for free on each platform

Out of curiosity how are you guys getting them off the shafts without getting stung?
-
I think it depends, on some dives I've seen them all over the place as far as depth, and the ones that aren't feeding won't be at the same depth as others. You might have a nice one swim right under you if you're upside down at 15ft, imo it's easier to swim straight and look up and down scanning the horizon...

Or a few miles off Shelter Island on years when summer isn't canceled
-
Another one? Wow, they must be getting really hungry out there... Those pics are insane!
-
That's a great way to clean up the resource from those things, 90 fish is insane!
-
That's a fatty right there, made for a great read

And thanks much for the kind words guys, it's such a great feeling to pop a new fish cherry, now it's time for some tuna... Looking like I'll have to wait for when they show up next year if summer isn't canceled then as well.

Very nice...I have a recipe you can try. Pecan crusted Hali, it's super easy.
1 cup pecans
1/2 cup brown sugarGrind pecans and brown sugar in a food processor or pound it out into almost a dust. Dip and pat that mix on the fillets and put on tin foil on a non greased baking pan. Bake for about 10 minutes but half way through, pour a spoonful of melted better on each fillet. The butter will carmelize on the sugar and pecans and it will be bomb. Don't overbook it! I hope you try it, it's really good.
PaulWow, that sounds amazing, thanks! That's totally on the menu for tonight now
Nice Miguel! That is a great first. How long was that halibut?
I didn't measure it unfortunately, just threw it on the scale when I got home. These are the easiest things ever to fillet by the way!
Nice fish Miguel! Hali's aren't my favorite eating fish so I usually bake them in teriyaki sauce/ginger or else fry them for tacos. I'm sure halibut mike and ladvr have some great recipes.
I'll try it that way too, no store bought tacos for me though since I'm gluten free now

Nice score! Good to see they can still survive after tearing off, at least long enough to get shot or gaffed again
-
After years of trying I finally got my first 'but at 12lbs! Too bad rays aren't good eating since you couldn't go five feet without seeing a shovelnose, diamond, torpedo, thornback or angel shark. I realized yesterday that I've never had halibut before, not big on commercial fish, looking forward to trying it out tonight though
Also almost shot about 20 halibut shaped rocks...
Anyone got any recipes?
