Anyhow, I need an OWC, and then I'm thinking about Night Diving classes and "Underwater Hunter and Collector" PLUS I'm going to need gear: custom sized wetsuit (Short and Stubby), fins, speargun a bit later.
PS OWC is for SCUBA or Freediving or both??? (I'm interested in both)

SO.... I live in Huntington Beach, but am willing to travel a bit (prolly 45 mins) to get a cheaper/ better class and dive shop. Sport Chalet costs $550 including boat to Catalina, Beach City Scuba has classes for $400 with beach dives, (which I'm ok with I think, unless you say otherwise.).... There are so many options and I need some options but I need to get an idea of where the experienced divers and spearos are pointing me to go.

Like was mentioned earlier you don't need any bs classes after the OWC, you'll pick that stuff up later from dive buddies. What you want for OWC is a dive shop that does local trips since a Catalina scuba cattleboat for a class sucks ass. You're basically on a boat for 4+ hours of riding time and you get to do nothing, imagine having spend 4 hours of driving to get chaperoned at a kiddie pool. All it does is raise the price tag. Your best bet is to hit up an OC Divers meeting and get some buddies to start freediving, you can find used gear online or through dive clubs for pretty cheap too.

That said, if you're getting OWC for anything even remotely related to spearfishing you're wasting your time, you're going to get zero decent local fish on scuba so ti's just money down the drain. Bug diving's a different story, but that season's almost over.

Great job on that toad calico, 10 hours of water time with that temp is crazy, neptune's blood for sure <img src= " height="23" srcset="https://spearfishing.world/forum/images/smilies/emojione/1f606@2x.png 2x">

That's a great article Don, where did it appear? I had no idea that they'd violated that many things! I thought it was just the CA Lacey Act for open meetings, good to see there's tons more ammo :)

I would have attempted a plate # on the car, if the jerks refused to put them back. We need to partner up,
I am a confrontational guy when I am face to face with a poacher in our back yard.

+1, gotta give poachers both barrels so they know it's not just the DFG they need to be worried about. Fortunately poachers are dickless immoral cowards, quick to tuck their tails between their legs when they get themselves into a shitty situation...

If you're not too confrontational, nothing helps like "this video of you and your license plates is going to look awesome on youtube".

Epic fail on the enviro's part, even with all the fluffy bunny commercials people still weren't buying it <img src= " height="23" srcset="https://spearfishing.world/forum/images/smilies/emojione/1f606@2x.png 2x">

I wonder what hail mary long shot Sutton's going to use to justify the MLPA's now, maybe he'll open with "so we're all going to pitch in for lottery tickets".

Thanks for posting this up Daniel, until you gave the heads up I had no idea. I forgot to keep in mind that the cuter and more emotional the commercials the worse whatever they want you to vote for is. Good issues have facts, bad ones have cute bunnies that might die if you don't vote for them. Kind of like the mlpa's :angry5:

we the people are so entrenched in our positions as either democrats or republicans we will always vote along our party lines and that is the most effective weapon they have against up.

That's probably the most astute political comment I've heard all year...
