Catalina Update!

I saw my first bonito in the wate rthis weekend and passed on the shot cos I have always heard they were not to be eaten...could you post a thread with this recipe for Bonito Poke please? you sounds quite excited about it so I'm sure it is tasty

they are great eating ,tuna salad, poke , sashimi

well damn!!! sounds like I blew it

it was a less than ideal shooting moment though, I was upside down on decent and there was a 15ft murk layer on the top, he was right under that...so I broke through the murk and saw him bolt by, I twisted to keep him in my view and lined up a shot, kind of upside down and half tucked...i followed his erratic moves for a second and thought "i don't think people even eat bonito, I don't want to shoot this just for fun, and like that, opportunity closed the door hahaha

rather than feel like an ass, I'll just maintain that I couldnt have gotten a good shot off

I also love bonito for breakfast very simple

A little salt & lime mayo then pan sear ,, with 2 eggs over mediem on the side!!

Next time we shoot some I'll be sure to post pics

of the cooking ,,. But if there's wasabi on the boat they never make it home

X2 ,, my freinds think I'm nuts when I say when raw
I prefer bonito vs yft !!

When iced and bled out it's hard to beat fresh bonito

i will say this, they are quite fast and they dont give you any clue which way they are going

Bonito are one fish where it's criticial to bleed & ice asap... it makes a HUGE difference in the taste & quality!

I wait till dinner with the fillets on ice on one's taken in the AM. I love Yellowtail on the BBQ but the Bonita are killer raw. How is ling raw Fuzz I have never shoot one?

Bonito are by far my favorite sashimi. Bleed them in the water, fillet and put on ice asap then enjoy, puts Toro to shame!

Given the amount of worms I've seen in some of the fillets... I don't eat lingcod raw. Too much vitamin W for my taste.
