Whats almost as bad is when they decide to stick to the underside of the boat. :frustrated1: The smell was horrible on a deck I can only imagine in a closed room with little ventilation. I dont think shell let you bring her fish for the next dissection.
Actually, she ask for a fresh fish because what they had were all dry ,no real smell of fish, she was really happy with this one, said was even better than her first choice who was an "small" amberjack, this remora
was pretty large for a remora. -
:thumbsup2:
truer words have never been typed

Thanks Anthony.

Thanks guys.
That boat is one of those old walk around metal whalers used by the DRN, he cut it and
rebuild it it really looks new. -
Yes I have, many years ago i tried to eat one while i was on camping, it was somethig else, the blood and guts were horrible, i knew it would be perfect for the job at school, not to mention the smell.
We have 2 kinds of remora here on the caribbean, the remoa remoa and the echeneis naucrates this last ones are the small ones with the black dark stripe the lengh of the side, you can confuse it with a small cobia.
there are some funny tales of fishermen hooking remoras and the remoras sticking themselfs to a large predator , letting the angler with a fight with a huge fish , after a long fight, the remora would be tired and release the bigger fish, letting the angler with all kind of questions about how such an small fish could fight like train. -
Eso es una pregunta?, ajajaj

Needs to be 10 pounds to apply.
but I can tell you it was huge,
Pics dont makeit justice. -
We had a lot of fun, and our Mahi Mahi's tend to always be on the large side.

hahaha, some tired hunters right there.
another great report Roberto....gracias
carlos at left was awake, just kidding, the other two guys
did not allowed us to hear the radio. -
Headed to the east side of the island, with Raul,Alex, and Saul.
We got a few jacks, dog snapper, and one of the biggest yellowtail snapper I have ever seen was taken by Alex.
It was a solid 2 foot plus without the tail (fork lengh). We had a lot of fun, weather was again really pretty.

Went fishing again , this time to the Naguabo area, weather was awesome,
really clear water and no current at all.We got a few hog fish, strawberry groupers, snappers and I got a remora for Juana Ines,Jorges wfe who is a marine Biologist teacher at a school and needed a fresh fish to disect with the stundents, a good excuse to talk about the merits of spearfishing.
Here a few pics.

Headed to Rincon with Gordo, Siein and Papo, the idea was to tryBlue water hunting , jump in a few reefs and then try a bit of rod and reel.
The morning in the water produced a few fish and later we headed offshore
to try with the R&R.We got a cubera, hhog fish and another snapper, plus a nice Dorado.
Got the Mahi Mahi on rod and reel, and a short video of landing it.

My Friend Elias wanted to buy an old small boat for spearfishing and a neighbor of his was selling one, along with Fernando we headed to Salinas to take a test drive and jump in a few hours in the water.
On our way out inside the lagoon , we saw a boat filled with water and on his side, we should have taken that as a warning.
Not to make the story too long, our boat had some problems, we did manage to get a few fish and had a lot of fun in our boat test adventure.
At one small reef, we found some lionfish, Elias was killing them, and we joined him,I had released a nice fat lobster a few minutes before because it had eggs, and in one of the rocks close to were we were shooting the Lion fish I found an 8 pound Lobster, good karma never fails.
Here a few pics.

Moon been biggest in dont remember how many years a friend call me and ask
if we could try for some mahi mahi,we would take both rod and reel and the spears,
and of course, i agreed to go.he also had bought a new roller gun, and wanted to take a few shots with it, what
a better way to do it in blue water with a tasty Mahi or wahoo. The week before a 70 pound mahi had been landed on the north San Juan coast, so
we knew the big ones were around. We departed from the East Coast, and headed to the South of Vieques,we went far offshore
until we could actually see Saint Croix, probably 20 miles from us or so, but
luck was not with us, it is called fishing, no mistake about it, ;-).So we headed back and jumped a few minutes on the coral reefs, we got a few small snappers
to eat and called it a day.So far this has been a great mahi season, and i have not been able yet to take advantage of it with
the spears. -
John, that looks really good.
Here in the Caribbean we are always worried with ciguatera on the
really big predatory fish, Amberjacks being one of them we normally
dont eat them, but the smaller ones I do, and I like them in Ceviche.Everywere else around the world they are priced fish, I dont think
there is a way you can go wrong with it no matter how you cook it.Butter, salt and garlic on a pan has always been the fastest way to a
great meal. -
I did not wanted to mention brands, but exactly, one of the Trigger mechs that could handle lots of loads was JBL, but you would need an 800 pound gorilla to pull the trigger on them.
I remember modifying my Voit/JBl shafts and using 6(soft) bands on them, trigger would not
shoot by itself, but it was a pain to shoot because of the trigger pressure.New JBLs uses kitto mech and they are really soft, some of them hair soft.
Tests are on Kittos webpages.

I ate a lot of plantains when I was in Puerto Rico last month, they went very well with the local seafood. The local condiment of ketchup, mayo and garlic was really tasty for dipping.
:thumbsup2::D
