My barrel is perfectly dry inside. I applied Marine Goop to the barrel holes and the screw threads and have taken my muzzle off just to check for water inside. Not a drop inside.
My spike protrudes just 2in past the muzzle end=perfect for me and my PPD.:D
I do not consider my guns complete without a kill spike and like pargo said, the spike works great to
    finish off a fish also.
Thank you Tin Man for a great tool.:)

The Tin Man shark spike is what I have on my RA130 Tuna. It works great. It looks great after months of diving and does everything I wanted in a shark spike for a rail gun. There is no better.
I have used mine to poke sharks away and even test fired a PPD on mine with no problems at all.
Thank you Tin Man for a great design and product once again:D

    pargo,
Thanks for the thread. Lots of good info there.
Has anyone seen a post about band diam./power/stretch? I was just wondering how much power is gained by pulling a 20mm band back 3 1/2inches each time for 4 fins would equal. Say a 20mm band at 40in stretch=80lbs, 47in=105lbs?
    Thanks for the help.

    fishingdude,
I do not expect the viz to be good as there is a small craft advisory warning on now for the last 12 hours and bouy reports of 4-5f seas.
Winds right now at 0200am are ENE at 16mph.:(
LOMartin and friends were out 12-31 but he did not say how the viz was.
This weekend seas are forecast to be good [2f or less]. I am going to try to get out in the next day or so and will post the viz here ASAP.
    Hope this helps.

Good points about the notches at midshaft and bending.
The notches on my RA shafts are aprox 3 1/2 inches apart. I thought about adding 2 more fins ahead of the existing factory notches the same distance apart. That way each notch/fin point changed the band power/stretch by 3 1/2 inches. For me, I could pull 1 20mm band back to the 1st fin [now 7in shorter stretch] to shoot a hog fish on the reef or a holed up/wounded grouper and bend/damage less shafts.
Also having just 1 band would make loading faster and eliminate the second unused band problems.

    Spearos,
    I have a question.
A one band gun has many advantages over a 2 band gun and I wanted to introduce a question.

Why not add 1 or 2 fins/notches to our spear shafts located in front of the factory fins/notches?

That way a spearo could use 1 20mm band on the 1st notch for holes/rocks and progressivly back to the last notch [4th]for blue water. That way the most forward notch/fin could also serve as a cocking tab. Would this not be a good idea?
    What do you think?

Thanks for your positive thoughts and comments.

That was a nice story with a good ending:D
    Yea, the adrenalin is fun:)
I know what you mean by just having a gun butt to defend yourself with. That is why my guns look naked without a kill spike. Not that a kill spike will stop a charging bull, just that the spike is better than nothing. Especially if I have enough time to get a ppd slipped onto the ppd. :)
    Again, great story.
    Gracias!

    LOMartin,
WOW, sounds like I go to the wrong places. Congratulations on the nice fish and bugs. Nice story:)
How deep where you guys please?

Triggers commiting suicide is what I call shooting triggers.:D They just swim up to you to check you out and look right into the end of my RA. With todays viz as bad as it was that was the only fish I could get:(. But is was a beautiful day out in the yak:).

    JimCuda,
Nice story, very nice pic and fish. Glad you got your fish and shaft back:thumbsup2:
Looks like I may have to go further out than 40fsh to get nice fish like that:(
    Thanks for sharin.

    monster slayer,
Looks like your shot placement is pretty good in those pic already:D
IMO perfect shot placement is achieved by both indian [spearo] and arrow[eqiipment]
The perfect arrow is no good if the indian is not good and vice versa. The perfect indian has a hard time hitting with a bent arrow.
IMO lots of shooting will improve both indian and equipment problems. On bad spearin days I try to get into the water to target practice whenever I can, especially if I get new gear or am having a hitting problem. I use a foam 2ftx2ftx2inch block weighted down to the bottom in 5fsw.
Another tip is target focus or target concentrate. Meaning focus WHERE exactly on the fish you want your spear to hit. Many shooters look at the whole target without impact focus/concentration. For me, if I focus on the exact spot[impact focus] I want my spear to hit, I will consistantly come closer to hitting that spot. IMO regardless of aiming techique hand/eye coordination can be focused. I focus [concentrate] on the fish gill plate if the fish is broadside. If the fish is close enough I focus on the fish eye. I may not hit the eye or the gill plate, but I come consistantly closer to those spots than aiming at the whole fish. Like Rolo said, good equipment and good hand/eye coordination.
Last, trigger and gun control is very important for shot placement. Jerking the trigger is a common accuracy problem. A spear takes forever to clear a 3-6ft barrel compared to a bullet clearing a firearm barrel, so that any poor speargun trigger or gun control will easilly throw a shot off target. I'm sure you already know all this, but sometimes we all forget.:)
    Very nice pictures.
    Hope this helps.

    seaweed,
Wow, another great contribution to this forum from you. This time about this reel and line. Thank you!

seaweed, what is your favorite reel?

The reel Marco introduced looks good, but I could not find much information on their web site about details.
If Marco like that reel it must be good.

too shallow, I use the new RA composite reel on my RA 130. I works OK, but I do not like the drag and drag knob,
and would be happier if the crank handle folded down like the Omer 50? But like others have said, a gun reel is mainly just a line storage
device. Where did you buy the reel yesterday? Maybe they will exchange it for another

You are correct about the electronics. I hand hold all my electronics as my yak is a peddle yak [Hobie mirage drive] and put my GPS, cell phone and FF back into their drypks once I get to my dive spot, other wise todays turtle would have been expensive. Another rouge wave caught me not watching as I was coming in and tore my RA off the side of the yak but I grabbed it immediatly. I was lucky today also:D
    Gracias

Yea, the forecast was for small craft warning, but I wanted to dive before it got bad. I started getting bounced around pretty bad on the surface even though the viz was good. The building waves filled my snorkel quite a few times. The breaking point came when I turned to check the yak again and could not see my flag or yak in the high seas. I swam hard the 100yd or so toward the anchor point till I saw my yak turtled and still at anchor:0
A good wave must have rolled my yak. I lost no gear as I stow everything below deck and even the flag is strapped to the hull. But conditions were getting worse quick so I came in early:(

    Stevo/mac00176,
    Sounds like you had fun.
I was there yesterday yakin/spearin just out from the pier and came across 2 ladies [20-30yr] shorkling with a $15. dive float out at the 15-20 ledge:D
They said they were having a good time also.
IMO I do not like that you have to come in to Meade? street with yaks, there is no rinse off there and I ended up with sand all over and in my truck:(
Nice water and weather conditions though.
