Yea, seems like a lot of boats in my area are set on Auto Pilot or at least the helm is not maned correctly.
I use a full size [22x24?] boat dive flag on my yak and still get buzzed/straffed now and then, especially on the weekends.
Many/many times have I been glad that I use a reel and do not use a float line.:0
I would be very angry if a prop caught my float line:angry5:

    Lots of beach buns:)

    Dan,
ROLO had it correct, surface dive/surface entry is the applied term for diving down from the surface at least by PADI, NAUI, YMCA and SSI scuba texts that we used. Perhaps there is a different freediving term as freedivers and scuba divers drop below the surface differently?

If you look at the water maps you can see that the closest the shelf is to the W coast of Fl is at St. Pete. As you go up or down from St. Pete the shelf [deeper water] gets further off shore. I used to sponge dive commercial out of Spring Hill [2hr Nof St. Pete] and we got 1fsw for every mile out. So to get into 20fsw we had to be roughly 20mi off shore like pargo said! An artificial reef effort has been made over the years to increase near shore diving and fishing but it all pales in comparison to even our first reef off shore in Broward.
Don't worry fishindude, you'll be back home soon:D

    1. Try 1lb changes if you can to get more perfect/comfortable weight.
    2. Diving weights are an underrated piece of equipment IMO. When I was teaching scuba I used ankle weights to keep my head up more to watch students better and used more weight than normal to enable me to control a student in the water better. Freediving I use a lead necklace to keep me flat or more head down in the water. I use a loose weight belt with weights free on the belt to slide into different locations as I need them, meaning while on the surface resting face up I slide all my weightsl around to my back and while face down in the water I let my weights slide around to my stomach. With a loose belt the surface dive is much easier as the weights slide towards my head and aid in getting me head down faster into the dive. All of this is unconventional and nonstandard weight belt usage, I know. But once you try diving with a loose belt you will immediatly understand what I am saying and realize how much more comfortable you are in the water not trying to stay face down with your weights on your back as an example.
    3. Diving weights are more critical for freedivers IMO because we have no BCD to use to compensate for to much or not enough weight.
    4. If you think about it, our weight belt is our body ballast system, much like a gun is ballasted to lie flat in the water.
    5. IMO my weight belt represents a hazard to me and I will dump it to the bottom the second I have a problem so I can get back up faster/easier/safer. In my depths I can always go back down after a breath up to retrieve the belt.
    Hope this helps.

    Marco,
That was a great story that really added to the pictures for me. Thank you.
The story could have been in Espanol but your English is very good. Gracias
You do not use a reel on your RA 130?
I use the new RA composite reel with 200 foot of 600 lb. QPower line. I guess I am just afraid of loosing my gun without a reel, but I am cheap and never like to let go of my gun.:)
Gracias for the great pictures and story.

    Marco,
    Very nice fish. Congratulations.
Your pictures are perfect, but I would like to hear the spearin stories also if you have time:)

I love my RA 130. All my Riffes and other guns sit in the closet also. I should have a sale to git rid of what I don't use anymore.
    Gracias

Beautiful craftsmanship from you as always. I'm sure those will sell very quickly at that price.
The rail gun spike you made me works flawlessly on my RA 130 and still looks like new after many days in the salt water.
Thank you for your continued contributions to our sport.
I have another spearin equipment idea if you are interested.
    Thank you again.

I think most spearos here prefer a two piece suit.
I use a Evo Elite 3mm 1 piece and get cold now in Dec., so I bought a 3mm hooded vest to wear over it.
I should have bought at least a 5/4/3mm or better yet I should have bought one of those 3mm Sporasub 2 piece suits on sale several months ago for100usd. But I am an old dog and new tricks [2 piece suit] are hard to learn:D
    hope this helps

    mca00176,
Congratulations on your new yak. Please to post a picture of it if you can.
A boat owners best 2 days is the day you buy the boat and the day you sell the boat. So yesterday was a very good day for you:)
I yak freedive/spearfish mainly Broward County often.
One of the most important yak accesories for me is my yak cart. You can solo yak from anywhere if you have a very good yak cart. [Just a suggestion]
Again, congratulations and let me know if I can help:)
