I won't be buying one. I enjoy freediving, and I want to be comfortable. I dive deeper every year and yet I feel safer than ever. If I don't see a fish, I come back up. I do not come close to my limit. I try not to stay down too long if its not necessary. If a fish is holed up pretty bad(80ft >), I usually use a scooter to retrieve fish. If I don't use a scooter, I usually don't have the energy to dive the same way the rest of the day.
new divers are not the ones who die ,its the upper end of the spectrum . you can tell yourself whatever you want about how it wont happen to you , but the better you are the higher your odds are of dieing in this sport

im getting a frv very soon . there will always be a what if this happens scenario but overall i think you are safer wearing it .to me its just to get you to the surface if you do pass out , where i dive if you pass out and sink it will be hours before anyone will find you ,even if they are right next to you when it happens. i plan on diving like i dont have it on ,to me its just a insurance policy . i have had a couple chances to look at it at Terry's and also joe tobins one and they are a solid ,well thought out piece of equipment

Sorry for the geting back late it's been a bad couple weeks for me. The "dust" you are geting could be from the brush I never use a new brush for a final coat thy allways have lint and other debris in them I normaly do a coat and then clean the brush in acitone then store it in a pail of clean acitone and then shake and blow it off before the next use

how about gray ? you could use pvc conduit . i think i have seen black pvc in one of my suppliers catalogs ,i will see if i can find it

I will get back to this thread tonight

Love the new Battery Bacpac for the extra filming time it allows... EXCEPT that I can't use it with the standard headmount. The extra back portion forces the camera to be angled down at least 30degrees.

When you come by we can make a nice cf mount that works with the pack

does a wild - temperamental gun need a longer or a shorter shaft?
or do you mean the shorter the shaft the lighterthe gun - the wilder?
creets,,
a low mass gun will need to be more finely tuned to shoot consistently .it depends on how the gun floats , normally: if the gun on the negative side a shorter shaft will work , on a positive gun a longer shaft will help . riffe guns are ballasted with the shaft if you added a couple oz to the muzzle you could cut 6" off the shaft and it would shoot the same for most people.

i will take some pics tonight that always makes things clearer.

Phil, if the lams are less than a 1/4" which side of the stock will be stiffer, the lam face side or the edges side?
It depends on how the wood was sawn but normaly it would be weaker 90deg to the glue line. At 1/4" or thicker lams it should be about the same on all sides but a blank should be checked for spine due to stress in the wood
Phil -
you defiantly want to use vertical lams the difference in the amount of pressure that it takes to bend a horizontal piece of wood and a vertical piece is enormous.
the lam direction has very little to do with stiffness . take a 1" x1" laminated block and it will flex almost the same no mater what is the top (as long as the lams are 1/4" or thicker). once wood is glued back together just look at the outside dimensions for stiffness ,not how its glued up . weather the wood is quarter or plain sawn has much more to do with direction of most flex.

Can the west systems graphite pigment be added and if so how dark can it turn out? I want to get a pitch black finish.
if you want black use black pigment for 2-3 coats then a couple clear coats on that it will be jet black and have depth .

you are not relying on the computer for your surface interval its just keeping track of it for you automatically i have a d3 you dont have to set or do anything to use it (i dont even have the time set) just get in the water and it turns on ,when you dive it shows the dive time in the middle and depth below that ,and when you surface it shows surface time in the middle with depth and time below it. when i started using it i found i "felt" like i was ready for the next dive within 20 sec of surfacing ,now i wait about equal my dive time for normal dives under 60f and 2min and a little longer on deeper dives. i can do that pace for hours without feeling out of breath

Was admiring the roller at the Neptune meeting last night, that gun is fine.

Get better soon Phil, my broken hand is just now pain free after one and a half years.....god what a waste of good Polish Vodka.

Cheers, Don
i take it as a huge compliment that mori wanted to borrow that gun . josh had dinner with mori monday and said i wasn't getting it back.
i am actually amazed how little my hand hurts it was a full separation break ,and after 3 days it only hurts if i bump the brace

I guess satin or matte are the proper terms. I was referring to a finish that was not a high gloss and had a look similar to that of an oiled gun. Also how flexible is the resin if applied to a fabric? Would it be brittle or would it flex like a fin?
it would flex , when layed up in glass it flexes very well before it fails. for a matte finish just scotch brite

Phil,
You use this epoxy for everything including the laminations, correct? I was planning on ordering your stuff very soon for my upcoming builds.Jim
yes if fillers are added
Phil do you sand between the first 3 coats? Also if I wanted a more natural wood grain look what would you suggest?
i only sand if the first couple are uneven , what do you meen by natural look ? if you want it satin just scotch brite it after the last coat
Just a quick question - when sanding between coats, do you usually wait the 6 days till the epoxy is fully cured or just 1-2 days.
Thanks
just 1 or 2 days the longer you wait the harder the resin gets . after full cure it is much harder to sand
