    Yes it was that green.

The coolest thing happened to us. We had 2 huge dolphins hang around the boat for a really long time. We left that spot to go about 2 miles and the dolphins found us. They stayed with us again and kept following us from spot to spot, a total of 3 miles. It was a really cool experience.

    Dan,

I think it's harder to think what you should do at that moment when it happens. What is crazy to me is your first dive of the day is your best dive of the day. It might not feel like it but it really is. You are fully hydrated, strong, and well rested. Something really bad must have happened or he made a really really bad mistake. I dunno.

We also don't know how good of a freediver Andrew is. Is he strong enough to pull up a body from depth? It is not easy for an average diver to do that at 60ft.

I met Nate maybe like 2 times. He was a super nice quiet guy from what I gathered. He was crazy about spearfishing that I know for sure. He is gonna be missed.

    RIP

    Marco,

You sound like me yelling at my boat driver. The shot should have been better since it came so close :D

It still was a great video and felt like I was getting tugged around. Thanks for sharing :thumbsup2:

That Ermes reel is gorgeous, looks well engineered. There's a potential problem that can come from stacking the line perfectly on the spool as the mechanical line guide on that reel will. I was talking with greekdiver once about reels while he was letting me check out his Abellan, he explained that he had almost lost it once when the reel locked up because the line had been stacked perfectly parallel like that. The line has the potential to dig deep into the spool when pulled hard, because the line can slip down between the perfectly stacked wraps and seize the reel up. I went home and unspooled my reel, respooling it with more criss crosses in the spool. I'm not sure of the probability of such a thing happening, but I'd like to try avoiding losing my gun at all cost.

I have a good amount of experience with reels. Never spool your line perfectly. Also, when you reel your line in, make sure there is some type of weight. Accidents happen when people just reel in the line without tension in the boat and then shoot a fish and put the breaks on it. Then the line digs in, and you can possibly lose your gun.

Ask me how I know  I had to retrieve my gun with a grouper on the end of it in 120ft inside a ship.

here is my take on it.

If I shoot a fish deep 85 to 100ft near the end of my dive, I do not want any tension on my swim back up. Would anyone truly want drag on a fish on a long swim back up? The fish will go where it wants on a deep dive if you are ready to come up. And trust me, the slightest drag is felt on your legs.

The palm of your hand is the best drag out there. You can apply light pressure or a lot of pressure. You can switch tension on the line faster with this method than any other way.

I usually pull the fish away from wreck by palming the reel and once i have moved the fish away, i will put less and less drag to even no drag, as I surface. Once fish gets away from wreck, it usually gives up.

THanks Greekdiver. I was actually thinking that if anybody was using this it would be you. I'm not looking to dive 100+ ft. I can shoot fish @ 80ft and that's plenty deep for me. Have you tried it before? I know you are diving super deep.

I have messed around with it. It is not fun bringing up all that stuff after each dive. Also, when you shoot fish real deep, you have to sometimes retrieve it deeper. It is not worth the stress in my opinion in the states where there is constant current and poor vis. In the med, yes because of lack of current and clear viz.

Pendulum diving is not necessary for usa. They do it in the med because there are few fish and they are deep. Deep meaning 120+ feet.

You can build up to 100+ feet safely and you wont need to go deeper especially in Hatteras.
