I was thinking about doing exactly what don said but i was afraid of deforming the jig and/or shaft. I will go ahead and try it. Will get back to you.
Thanks

Im not really sure either, but i would like to see pics of all these big hogs you've been getting lately!
I successfully drilled a shaft the other day with no problem, However, today i was drilling a little to fast and the carbide drill broke off in the jig and also half way through the shaft. So now I'm trying to figure out how to get the shaft out of the jig. The drill bit is acting like a pin keeping the shaft stuck. I don't think you can drill through a carbide drill bit can you? I'm a little stuck here, any suggestions?

All belts are too long for me because I have a 30 inch waist and only use 2lbs of weight:D
Me to :rolleyes1:
Nice fish! Surprised it wasn't a stone shot.
Incredible, how does he overcome the goggle squeeze? How does he walk on jagged sharp coral? How does he ascend from 20mtrs. as negatively bouyant as he is? I think he is inhuman!
Happy Holidays everyone!
It was a Rob Allen 7.5 mm.
Hmm, i guess you never know.... I've shot fish in the 10-20lb range (yellow jacks, cudas, grouper) with a 6.6mm ra shaft i shoot with my 110. Granted they are mostly head shots but i have yet to bend it.
Its routine in all of my dives. I started out doing it because of how annoying the escaping air bubbles were on the ascent, preventing this annoying factor made me much more relaxed on the ascent, especially coming up from a deep dive.
Probably more similar to sheephead than anything else, seeing as how they're both wrasses. But then again the Mexican hogfish in the Sea of Cortez are related wrasses but the meat is noticably different (firmer IMO).
Very nice fish, especially for where you were. Congrats. I'd love to shoot a Fla hogfish one day soon. What are conditions like in March usually?
Nice Hog! Fish are still pretty thick as were just coming out of winter. However, the conditions get much better. Calmer seas and clearer water.
mmmmm delicious!
Good Hook, What was your opinion of FII level 1 course? I just signed up for it and will take it in Jan15.
Greta course, who are you taking it with?
Welcome Krive! :thumbsup2: Lets see some dentex!!
you gotta ask oto bro, mine is diamond skin, its still smooth but much tougher against small cuts.Thats what i would recomend for anyone that spears on reefs and stuff..the smooth skin is very sensitive imo
O really, i think i will ask them about it.
Nice fish! How do you like the eliossub smoothskin top? Have you had any trouble with tearing on the reef? I'm in the process of ordering one.
Beautiful gun!
They can be. I mean in areas where there's pressure there can be the occasional big hog that will motor away the moment it becomes aware of your presence. I wouldn't call that challenging it's simply impossible to shoot such a fish unless maybe it holes up at some distance away where you can see. But in my experience they always keep going until I lose sight of them. Here in Florida I've seen that very few times, hog fish are generally considered very easy prey as they let you get very close, so close that you're wondering whether the fish is even aware of you, but I believe they just choose to ignore divers, fatal mistake.
I would agree Dan, the small ones are dumb. However, the big ones aren't big for nothing.
Nice fish! How did you cook it?
Personally i like it grilled. I make a mixture of olive oil, old bay seasoning, salt, pepper, and whatever else you wish, maybe some crushed red peppers. Put the fillets in the mixture for about an hour. Turn on the grill, just about as hot as you can get it. Keep pouring the mixture over the fish while on the grill. The finished product is a charred/grilled spicy taste with white flakey meat. Don't forget the lime wedges either!
Thanks Guys!
It wasn't to deep, as the fish are in "shallow" during winter time
Don - I was using my 80cm Buechat w/reel, I love using this gun. Hunting with a small gun in clear water really improves your hunting skills.
Got this guy yesterday. Definitely worked for him. He holed up as soon as he saw me. Took me quite a while to work him out before I could get a shot but i did. I was stoked! Best part, all on HD video with the new gopro :D:D Thanks Dan!
