New Gun Debut

  • Some of you may have seen the sneak peak...

Just got done putting it together. It looks and feels great! Needs a couple of small adjustments to make it look pretty, but nothing that will stop it from going into the water for a fish killing mission! Mostly just shaping the butt pad to match the contour of the stock and a couple of touch up spots on the oil finish (band holes)

60" overall length. 48"-50" of band stretch. semi-enclosed track for a 7.5mm shaft. I will be shooting a 170cm shaft from this gun, with ~ 12" of overhang. Neptonics Reef mech for round notched shafts. Will be shooting some high-quality South African spring steel from this gun!

The gun is very light. The stock width and height is 1-3/16" X 1-3/4".

The handle is the new Tinman AR-15 base and an ATI "Strikeforce" grip. If you like Alexander handles, this has a very similar feel. However this one has some texture to it and just a tiny bit more rake. The finger grooves give a very good overall control feeling. The line pin is Riffe. The muzzle is modeled after Jeff's new RA retrofit. 9/16" holes that are staggered up as they go forward.

Can't wait to try it out! I will be shooting 2 bands and a single wrap of shooting line to start with, to get a feel for the recoil. I eventually plan to shoot this gun with three bands and 2 wraps of shooting line, for a light BW gun. I will be adding ballast in the future if needed.

  • Thanks Jeff. I really took my time with it. I put the first coat on last Saturday and put the final coat on last night. Seven coats overall, sanding between each coat, initially with 220 and the last 2 coats with 320 before final application.

  • i have to agree that tung oil finish really looks great, band holes line up like how i have seen on some of those tinman delrin muzzles he makes

  • John I am pretty much in love with this gun buddy...very nice work and it captures all that I love about this sport...DIY attitude, simplicity taken to the practical limit, and a relentless passion for doing things the right way.

this is something you should be very proud of my friend, may it serve you well in happiness and health for a long long time :)

    i like to spear fish

  • Thanks Judah. I can't wait to go try it out!

The number one thing I have learned about guns in the last few years, is that simple is better, all around. I think it was Mori that said:

" How complicated does it need to be? it's just a stick, a piece of metal and a couple of rubber bands"
