Bands out of position, rubber tubing spacer

  • A big annoyance to me are bands which move freely in the band slot, and change position after every shot, which requires aligning them every time before loading. When I make a wood gun I purposefully make the band holes small so the bands are held tightly and never change position. I find that on many Euro guns the muzzle band holes are too big for my preferred 16mm bands.

It was suggested to me to use another band as a spacer to prevent this from happening. I know that when two bands are used in one small hole they also don't move, but I was concerned that a short section will pop out. I haven't used the gun rigged this way yet so I can't say, but I was assured that the rubber tubing spacer will stay in its place.

I shaped mine in a way I thought would occupy the most space, also if I didn't reduce the tubing it would be impossible to get such a short section in there. The band has to be stretched hard before the spacer can be pushed in having been lubed with dish-washing detergent, I achieve this by loading the band. Here's the result and I'll report back whether it works or not. If a black band were to be used for the spacer I think it would look better, but then you wouldn't be able to tell from the pic.

  • Dan I ended up removing the spacer from the front hole, the slight inconvenience of the band getting out of place didn't bother me as much as how tight the shooting line was to route. I do like how well it holds the rear band in place and doesn't interfere with anything.
