Is there such a thing as a square PVC Pipe in the larger diameters?
Square PVC pipe for speargun rack

Looks like there is http://custom-plastics.apiplastics.com/viewitems/furniture-grade-pvc-pipe-and-tube/furniture-grade-square-pvc-pipe-tube?&forward=1&gclid=COG1xO7Qrp8CFRKenAodeGsY2A Now I just have to find it locally.
-
How big are you looking for? Look at PVC deck and dock building material.
-
Thanks. I forgot to say I found it locally as a PVC fence post. I'll post a pic when I'm done doing what I want to do with it.
-
Speargun rack bottom part.
-
Looks great dan, nice little solution right there
-
Looks good what are you going to do for the top, and is there room for one on the other side too.
-
For the top I need a bar welded onto the aluminum frame. Bungees will be attached to that.
There's no room for a rack on the other side. The boat takes a max of 3 divers, so 3 guns. A couple of backup guns can go in the hatch, but I haven't tried it yet to see how long a gun it will take.
-
That's pretty cool Dan. So many gun racks look like afterthoughts, but I like how yours (so far) looks like it belongs there.
I don't know if the PVC will scratch wooden guns, but if you find that it does, you might consider some rubber edge trim for the holes. McMaster has lots of styles and materials.
-
Thanks. I wanted to know where to buy that kind of material for other applications as well.
-
good thinking jeff, I was going to suggest that he melt the edges dull with a heat gun and spoon...your idea is, as usual, better

Be aware that welding to the frame will destroy the shiny anodizing at the weld. The weld, and the tubing near it, will just be dull gray.
What do you think about using a plastic or aluminum piece that clamped onto the rail, and then you could attach whatever gun holder you need to the clamp?
-
Dan, use the Blue Poly bungies from West Marine, they will last 5 plus years in direct sun and used to be
warranted against breakage.

Thanks Don.
Jeff, how would I clamp a flat bar to a round tube? I want it to be solid like a rock. In case someone puts their weight on it by accident.
Maybe one of those U bolts with nuts? If I can do this myself I would much prefer it. I'll be able to get the boat out much sooner.

Thanks Don.

Is a West Marine close to you ? they have allot of pre-made stuff. Get a catalog. I'll check back in after work.
SS ubolt and plate with SS Nyloc nuts.
Don -
Right. I was thinking of the style of clamp shown below. The the piece of metal beneath the nuts really helps it grip a round tube much better than the u-bolt alone. Then cut off the ends of the u-bolt to be just the right length and use an acorn nut so the protruding threads won't snag wetsuits, etc.
-
You beat me to it I was just going to post this http://www.dxengineering.com/products.asp?ID=14 That other metal piece is called a saddle. Yours looks better to me but I don't know if it's available in SS.
I'll go measure the tube diameter now.
Where can I get a SS bar about 2' long and 1.5" wide, thick enough so as not to bend if someone grabs it?
-
I have bought small pieces like that from both www.speedymetals.com, and www.metalsdepot.com. It looks like it will run you about $22 plus shipping from either. I would get the ones with rouned corners, if it were me.
