RIP Larry Carter

  • I don't how how many of you might actually know him, but Larry Carter, lifetime member of the Fathomiers and president of the IUSA passed away two days ago to cancer.

The cancer was only recently diagnosed and it took him quickly. I am glad he didn't have to suffer, but I am saddened by his passing. Larry was a huge figure in the spearfishing world and was instrumental in keeping the legacy of the Fathomiers dive club alive, as well as re-establishing the IUSA into it's current standing as the most recognized spearfishing records organization. He was my sponsor into the Fathomiers and introduced many to many new lifelong friends.

God speed Larry. May you rest in peace friend.

  • Larry was a good friend to many in our small circle. I sent him this e-mail a couple of weeks ago...

"Larry, my prayers are with you. You are a "Tough Guy" and I expect full well for you to beat this. Your own inner strength and the strength of your circle of friends will have you up and around in no time. These are not soft words but rather words for you to know that everything will be better in another couple of weeks. "Stay thirsty my friend and remember to drink Dos Equis" Hahahhah!! "

I was truely saddened by the news I received this morning. Cheers Larry:toast::toast:

  • apperently the diagnosis came very late, he was having back problems this spring and was sent to see a phys. therapist, when that didn't help they planned to do back surgery and the cancer was finally diagnosed then. the family friend that forwarded this info to me suspect that the agressive radiation therapy that was used to fight the disease most likely killed him. trully a sad situation.
    may he rest in peace.

    in loving memory of paolo
