New Member NorCal

  • Hey everyone, just started thinking about getting into FreeDiving recently so I have been searching around reading stories and looking for gear and thought I would join this site. I have been into "snorkeling" all my life, mostly diving for crawdad's in freshwater lakes. I recently got scuba certified, but am more interested in freediving go figure.... I have done a bit of Ab diving, and spent 10 days spearfishing in the Sea of Cortez near Loreto, Baja Mexico. I had a ton of fun however never really shot anything very big..my big fish was a 8-10 lb Cabrilla, everything else was dinky (less than 2 lbs.). Anyhow I need to pic up some gear first, a diving suit, (my surf suit wont cut it), a gun, and some fins then I'll be set. Any recommendations on suits at a lower price range?? This is probably a common question and I havent even searched the forum yet.. Well, off to browse through the forum on my lightning speed dial up.

  • Welcome troutbum, abalone and ling season isn't too far off.
As for suits, get a good 7mm 2-piece open cell freedive suit and you won't be cold up in our 48 degree Nor Cal waters. I'm using a 7mm Spetton right now, but I've read good things about the Pursuit wetsuits, and the price is awesome at $240.

  • Welcome mate good to have you, yes as Rich said, Pursuit wetsuits have a quality and fit as good as or better then any I have worn.

    Cheers, Don
