Spark plug wires for marine motor

  • Is there such a thing as marine grade or can regular automotive spark plug wires be used?

    Built would know..:D;)

I would get them spec to your outboard with water proof plug and coil pack boots. Is it a Mercury ?

    1

Turn the ignition key "Off" and remove it from the switch. Remove the 5/16-inch nut from the negative post of the battery with the appropriate open-end wrench. Remove the negative/ground cable from the battery.
    2

Trace the spark plug wire from the plug to the capacitor discharge module associated with that plug. There will be one module per plug.
    3

Pull the spark plug wire from its push-on/pull-off connection on the capacitor discharge module. Pull the other end of the wire from the top of the spark plug.
    4

Push the straight end of the new plug wire onto the connection on the capacitor discharge module and push the end with the 90-degree bend on the top of the spark plug. Repeat for all plug wires.
    5

Replace the ground cable onto the negative post of the battery. Thread the 5/16-inch nut onto the post and tighten with the appropriate wrench.

  • Safety on all thing posted for week end warriors, they don't want you to get a jolt from the coil pac or have some ones tee shirt get snagged in the flywheel when the wifie or buddy turns the key to listen to the CD player.:D

  • I would go with wires made for your outboard. That being said, I recommend outboard shop in pompano, they always have what I need for my mariner and are priced right. I needed a switchbox and wires, the mercury switchbox was like $200 and they gave me the wires for free($50-$60 value). They are always that helpful when I'm in there.

With what Don said, I wouldn't bother with the ground removal, but I would keep the keys in my pocket. My dad thought it was funny to shock the shit out of me in the driveway while I was standing in a big puddle of water from cleaning the boat
