Sunday Morning North County Dive Report

  • Got in From 8-10 this morning.
Water was glassy and no waves at all.
In the water it started a little cold but ended up being comfortable in my new gat-ku 5mm the entire time. Awesome!

Vis was about 10' and even opened up to about 15' near the kelp in about 25' of water. ...and this spot does not hold vis ever! So I'd say the conditions were amazing.

Spent the first hour looking for butts and bugs but there just wasn't any of either. All the traps I came across held plenty of big bugs. I'm sure this was the reason for the ghost town. I did come across 2 lobsters fighting and snagged one which barely registered on the gage.

Hit the kelp up and there were plenty of small calicos. Finally caught a larger one off guard and he is probably the biggest I have shot.

I didn't want to leave but had commitments. On my way in I wasn't optimistic but was still looking up the sand channels. This NEVER happens but just before I was about to call it a day I see the halibut out in the open.
    Measured about 25".

Get out there if you can.

  • Nice report Zen, way to go on the flatie. I like how no street names were given out to the mass's.
I would like all Cali guys to remember cell phones and PM's are the preferred way to invite your friends and buddy's to a specific spot that is holding game. We are about to be evicted from allot of our traditional hunting grounds if the MPLA go's forward Jan 1.
I am willing to share my spots with any brother spero I dive with, but not on the web. Any spots my fellow spero's take me to remain a secret for them to share not me.

Another way is to not give the meat of the report in the first post at the top of the page and continue to the second post for images. Our future diving will be shared with Hoppers, fishermen, and any kid that can buy a
shite box speargun on the net for cheap. A shaft in the back from a newbie can take your life as easy as any blackout or boat accident, lets all dive and hunt smart and safe.

    Cheer, Don
