We would bring a coleman lantern with fresh batteries. Or have someone on shore stoking a large fire.

nice...you are lucky to not have to worry about theft..a lantern left on any miami beach would be gone in .02 seconds..the fire is a killer signal

I was diving in Hawaii off a lava flow. Not much around except for maybe some goats. I didnt think about theft but if the beach is well lite you know where to get in or out if there is a good marker. Or bring some non diving friends and have them start a fire and a pot of water for your return.
