Dont Rob a Cop...

  • Looks like footage of a war zone. Those are populated areas and the cops are shooting automatic weapons all over the place.

Yep. The unfortunate citizens get caught in the middle. There were a lot of repercussions from this action and they have somewhat refined their tactics and succesfully pacified and occupied quite a few favelas already but the tensions in this action were very high due to the last attempt having incurred 5 police casualties including the death by a sniper bulit of their batallion comander. Drugs, cash, weapons. Bad combo.

  • , 3 guys on 1 bike... what were they thinking...

    FILM

The Elite Squad (Portuguese: Tropa de Elite, pronounced: [ˈtɾɔpɐ dʒi eˈlitʃi] lit. "Elite Troop") is a 2007 Brazilian film directed by José Padilha. The film is a semi-fictional account of the BOPE (Portuguese: Batalhão de Operações Policiais Especiais), the Special Police Operations Battalion of the Rio de Janeiro Military Police. It is the second feature film and first fiction film of Padilha, who had previously directed the documentary Bus 174. The script was written by Bráulio Mantovani, based on the book Elite da Tropa by sociologist Luiz Eduardo Soares and two former BOPE captains, André Batista and Rodrigo Pimentel.
The Elite Squad was an outstanding commercial success, and became a cultural phenomenon in Brazil. The film won the Golden Bear at the 2008 Berlin Film Festival. Its sequel, The Elite Squad 2, released in Brazil on October 8, 2010, holds industry records in the country for ticket sales and grossed revenue.

  • BOPE stands for Batalhao de Operacoes Especiais. It's a division of the Military Police. In Brasil, there is the Civil Police and the Military Police. Like in the US there is the Police Dept and the Sherrif. Their jurisdictions completely overlap and it is difficult to reason why the two exist separately. I do know that the MP are more militarized and trained like the army. Bope are the elite of the elite and they are called upon when the mission requires tactics and weapons not available to other agencies. Kinda like SWAT. They are known for their " take no prisoners" attitude. Brasilian police in general, are trigger happy when it comes to criminals. The penalty there for running a roadblock is a spray of bullets from a full auto weapon. They write the law with their actions on a daily basis.
