Cero VS Spanish Mackeral

  • I am sick of hearing so many different opinions about whats what in the Mackerel species :frustrated2:
Today I shot 2 fish that I call Spanish Mackerels, my friend insists that they were Cero, his explanation is that Cero have the stripes unbroken down the back where the Spanish have only the spots...Need the experience available here to help me get some clarity
Also I have seen people calling King Mackerels Spanish anyone have a idea why there is so much ambiguity within this species??????

A bad day at sea is better than a good day in the boatyard

  • The cero, Scomberomorus regalis, also known as the cero mackerel or painted mackerelis similar in appearance and coloration to the Atlantic Spanish mackerel, Scomberomorus maculatus, except the cero has a longitudinal stripe in addition to the spots of the Spanish.
