Best Speargun and Rig

  • I am new to spearfishing and am looking to buy all the required gear. Therefore, please let me know what the best equipment is. I am near San Clemente, CA and will likely be going into the ocean from the beach (versus boat). There are so many options for equipment. As such, I am asking you to let me know what the best is.

Cost is not an issue. said, I do not want to waste my money either. So if something is insignificantly better than the next best thing, but at twice the cost, I’d rather go with the next best thing. However, I subscribe to the “buy once, cry once” philosophy.

    I am looking for:

    -Wetsuit

    -Fins

    -Snorkel

    -Speargun

    -Speargun reel

    -Speargun line

    -Mask

    -Snorkel

    -Gloves

    -Anything else that is necessary

    Thanks!

  • For spearfishing trips in the San Clemente region, the prudent one will only purchase equipment that balances price and quality, durability, and function besides the exaggerated improvements. The wetsuit should be a good quality 3mm or 5mm one made by brands like O'Neill or Rip Curl, which account for great thermal insulation and flexibility for Southern California's typically warm waters. Mares and Cressi, for example, offer fins with long blades that are very good in the water, and they are also useful for beach-entry situations. A quality snorkel from the brands Mares or Scubapro that comes with a good mouthpiece is considered suitable. Concerning spearguns, Riffe and Salvimar excel with their multifaceted models designed particularly for California water areas. The Riffe Midhandle and Salvimar Vintorez are respectively, among the top available models. Successfully combined with these reeds is a speargun reel, such as the Mares and Sea Sniper variants, of course, brought into play a steady line set-up (100-120 ft of robustly durable and difficult to break) that you have. A mask with high performance is the most important thing you need and Cressi Sub Horizon is brilliant for its comfort and clear vision. Gloves, even though they are often disregarded, are very important and that is why you should get a good, strong, and comfortable pair from Aqua Lung or Mako Spearguns. Next, maybe it would be good to get the knife for diving and a good dive watch for safety. With the “buy once, cry once” mindset, focus on reputable brands, and remember that solid mid-range equipment will serve you well without excessive cost.
