For those who may not know the mojito is a very refreshing alcoholic cocktail. Maybe the ideal drink on hot sunny days as it doesn't leave you sluggish. My only problem with the mojito is that over time in Cuba I built up an intolerance to lime as it is overly used in everything, cooking too, and the mojito is often made with too much lime.

    Nevermind, found this from Wikipedia.

In general in most Spanish speaking countries, the term "yerba buena" refers to the particular local species of mint, which varies from region to region. The term has been (and is currently) used to cover a number of aromatic true mints and mint relatives of the genera Satureja or Clinopodium. All plants so named have medicinal properties, and some have culinary value as teas or seasonings as well.

This would explain why the Cuban mojito can't be duplicated elsewhere :thumbsup2:

The way I approach building my band gun is I base it on the longest stock that I can load comfortably. In the case of a pneumatic I'd approach it the same way, the longest gun that I can load comfortably would be one without an assistance bar or an extension loader. In Cuba I remember guys always playing around with the gun length. I wonder if this option is available here because not always do the lengths coincide with the persons maximum reach. What would have to be done is cut the outer barrel and the inner barrel. The only difficult part I see is creating threading and two or three grooves for the O rings on the end of the inner barrel.

This is a repost. The original post is by Gamble on SB. I thought it was important as I shop with leisure pro sometimes.

I just received a news letter from LeasurePro anouncng ther partnership with the Coral Reef Alliance, http://coral.org

The Coral Reef Alliance is a major supporter of MPA's around the world and with a budget of over 3 million a year they have the backing to make some of them happen. I urge everyone to send an email to LeisurePro letting them know that their support of a organization who promotes the closure of public resources in place of fighting the problems damaging that resource will not be tolerated or rewarded by sales. I think everyone here would agree that the coral reefs of the world need protection but how they are protected is the key here. Stopping pollution, runoff, poor anchoring, and misuse of the resource are at the forefront of the solution. Declaring a reef an MPA WILL NOT stop what's killing the reefs. We need to start solving the problems causing the death of the coral. If there's no coral reef the will definitely won't be any fish inhabiting it so overfishing isn't even an issue.

Here's the email I received and please educate your selves on CORAL.

    Dear Customers and Friends,

It is our pleasure to inform you of our exciting new partnership with the Coral Reef Alliance (CORAL), the only international organization working exclusively to save coral reefs around the world.

Filled with thousands of unique plants and animals, coral reefs are magnificent examples of nature’s beauty. But beauty is only a small part of a reef’s potential value to the planet. They are also vast repositories of life-saving medicines, a primary source of income for millions of people, and natural wave barriers that protect beaches and coastlines from tsunamis and storm damage.

Coral reefs have thrived on Earth since prehistoric times. However, approximately 20% of our reefs have been lost in recent years and about 50% of the remaining reefs are currently at risk of collapse. Leisure Pro has partnered with CORAL to prevent that from occurring.

In keeping with our commitment to this cause, Leisure Pro has resolved to stop selling coral fish food on our site. Our concern about coral reef damage has led us to a new awareness of the harm caused by the feeding of coral reef fish. By refusing to sell fish feed, we hope to not only reduce supply but also raise the consciousness of individuals about the damage fish feeding causes.

It is our wish that our collaboration with CORAL will help bring more public awareness to this vital cause. If you are interested in becoming part of this laudable venture either by contributing monetarily or by becoming an active member, we salute you.

Read more about this partnership and what else is being done for this cause.

We are excited and proud of our new venture.

    Sincerely
    The Leisure Pro Team

This is what they look like on the inside, clear plastic backing for demonstration only (Tin Man's pics).

Once you try them you'll wonder how you dove without them.

I think I remember Rolo bringing the gun along one time but I can't remember the condition so I'll just vouch for Rolo vouching :)

    Wikipedia
Unconfirmed reports suggest that belugas may reach a length of up to 8.6 m (28 ft) and weigh as much as 2,700 kilograms (5,940 lbs), making them the largest freshwater fish in the world, larger even than the Mekong giant catfish or the pirarucu. At this mass, the beluga would be even heavier than the ocean sunfish, generally recognized as the largest of bony fishes. But the largest generally accepted record is of the female taken in 1827 in the Volga estuary at 1,476 kg (3,249 lbs) and 7.2 m (24 ft).

Here's a happy looking fellow with his catch of a Beluga sturgeon.

I always thought the same thing! It should have been called the Sturgeonsub.

That's cool, I didn't think too many people would recognize the movie, I remember seeing it in the theater as a child. It was a big deal to me because I loved the book.

The sturgeon is a beautiful fish that reportedly can live more than a hundred years. The very expensive caviar comes from the roe of these fish. The largest is the Beluga sturgeon which can reach 7meters (24 ft) and 3000lb.

Not at all complicated, it may seem that way if you've never used sound editor software. This program is WaveEditor. It comes included with Nero burning suite so most people have it and don't even know it. I'm sure there's free sound editor software that represents data in a similar way. You can see from the pic that the peaks are where the sound level goes up. In a speargun shot recording you'd see mostly a flat line beginning and ending with a noise spike/peak. You can easily select a portion of the graphical representation and the time appears on the bottom where I circled. You can also zoom into the graph, where half a second would take up the whole screen. This enables you to select precisely where you want to know the time.

To make the whole thing even less complicated I could use my digital camera with its underwater housing to make a video recording which includes sound. This can be done while actually shooting a fish in open water. The sound data from the video can easily be treated in the same way.

I don't really care about the speed with which the spear leaves the speargun as a number but I thought the following was brilliant.

Put a cheap microphone into a condom --- tie it off so the mic doesnt get water in it. Connect the mic to a laptop and put it (the mic since you still may not be thinking) into a pool where the gun will be shot at a wooden target suspended off the bottom by strings to your weight belt. Accurately adjust the distance from the end of the shaft to the target (15 to 20 ft for example) and with the computer recording shoot. Review the digital image of the sound in a sound editing program to measure the time distance from the sound of the mechanism and bands going off to the impact of the shaft at the target. From that point with a little engineering help you ought to be able to figure the average velocity over the distance traveled.

I don't see the point of those finlets. Fins without water channeling rails slip over the water on the down kick. The less rail you have the more you will feel this effect. The only downside to the rails is difficulty with sculling movements, but as freedivers using long (carbon or fiberglasss) blades we avoid those movements anyways.
