Guantanamo bay is probably a place inaccessible to Cubans, that's why you saw fish at all. The north coast of Cuba that I'm a little familiar with has great vis almost all of the time and the drop offs are very close to shore. There are places where you can catch bill fish and Wahoo right off the shore with hook and line. As a rule the taller the cliffs on shore the closer deep water and the gulf? stream is. I had pictures of these amazing places but lost everything when I reinstalled the operating system on my lap top without backing up the data first. I have great longing for this country and will go back one day.

Here are pics of a place called Yumuri that is very close to an idyllic diving and spearfishing spot that I found. You have to be careful with planning the points of entry and exit as sometime you have to combine a little cliff climbing and hiking along with spearishing. Does diente de perro ring a bell?

    Good point about the tabs.

Julio, I'd like to see a pic of the bottom of the muzzle. How can you use that arrangement for two bands? I can see the bands pointing up always after the shot and allowing quick reloading as you don't have to fiddle with inserting the shaft between them.

Show off! Nice to be able to have a shop in the open air, no neighbors bitching about zoning and such. I don't see pigs or chickens running around :confused1: Keep the pics coming.

When I first saw a Spetton speargun with a hinged power band attachment a couple of years back I dismissed it thinking it was just a marketing gimmick. Spearguns work fine set up conventionally with a band slot, and the inline attachment of euro guns with the screw in bands already being at the upper limit of what's really necessary. I stumbled on these pictures today and thought the design looked elegant. As is usual with these things all that glitters is not gold and there probably are disadvantages with this kind of setup that are not immediately apparent. Still it's a refreshing approach that I thought you would enjoy taking a look at.

Pretty aside, what would be the advantages in the first place of this setup? What could be the disadvantages? One of the first things that are apparent is that you're losing about 5" of band stretch (counting all the way around).

Nice solution for the grip and overall craftsmanship BTW. I like how the top bar is shaped to hold the shaft snugly.

I like it! Simple, not too many ingredients. Would you believe I had to look up what an Apricot is.. Turns out this is one of the few fruits I like in preserves. Should be great as glaze.

Sounds good to me. Is it legal to cook here on the beach? I think I remember signs saying you can't. In this case we can do it at Haulover park, or on the boat in the bay.

Crab boils are one of my favorite ways to waste an afternoon, and some of my fondest memories as a kid on the northern Gulf coast. For 18-20 nice blue crabs, we bring a pot of saltwater to a boil, and add a bit of vinegar and hot seasoning to taste. Add small red "new potatoes" and boil for ten minutes. Then add corn on the cob and blue crabs and boil it all for ten more minutes. Turn off the heat and let is sit for a few more minutes if you want it to absorb more spice. Then take it all out, spread it over a big picnic table, and eat. Plenty of meat in the claws and body, but I don't mess with the legs.

Not a "high yield" as you would say, but a nice way to eat a SLOW paced meal out on the dock. Picking the meat out takes a little time, so it's mostly a social thing.

    - Discard the water.

Thanks for the food and good times recipe T man :toast:

Sorry to be repetitive but I don't get it, like I said it's something I've wondered about for a long time. Do you drink the soup/salt water with the veggies and leave the crabs alone or do you just take out the crabs leaving the soup as if it were marinate, break the shell and look for pieces of flesh inside?
