im somehow friends w/ pipin fererras on FB and now my life is so pleasantly filled with updates on what team persistant is up to..
(let it be known before i assume myself too high and mighty that I may have sent him the friend request back in the day)

They are considering changing their name to the following:

    Team Persistently Poaching
    Team Inconsistent
    Team Incompetent

Certainly one of my all time favorite songs. This is my favorite version by far. I believe it is played during the credits display at the end of Finding Forester, which is also a great movie. When I hear this song, it reminds me of when I was young and watched it performed in The Wizard of Oz.

    Lunk,

You should place text in the pictures of the depth like 50'+/-:D. Also, I think that looks very similar to bottom on the southwestern corner of Biminni. Don't want Team Pursuit be associated with Team Inconsistent:D

No surprise with the "Dream Team" there. Between Ed's chum and knowledge, and GR and Jason diving, wow. The fish never stood a chance. 100' for those guys is a cakewalk.

    C

Don't underestimate the rest of the crew. Everyone shot their share and actually Dave and Ed shot most of the nice fish on Saturday.

You guys just anchor up and throw out those baits? That sounds like a lot of work but you guys produced!

    Harry,

The cast netting was not really that cumbersome or time consuming. Ed stays there for two months in the summer taking out his customers, so by the time we get there, he has already identified where bait is accumulating. The operation is quite seamless and pays dividends on the reef. The anchoring was feasible as there was absolutely zero current during our days diving.

    Thanks for the comments.

    Day 3

Drove back down Sunday morning and the crew was joined by the Diving Dutchman (Gerald). With GR and Jason chasing the big blacks in the deep, we dove most of the day in the 75-100 range. We once again were one black away from our boat limit.

    Memorable Day

    Day 2

I was not able to dive on Saturday due to a wedding I could not afford to miss. The crew was augmented by GR and Dave. I received a taunting text message during my brother's wedding with this picture and the words: One grouper away from limiting...

    Day 2 Cooler Pic

As we move through the grind of our daily lives there is much we all take for granted. Technology in all fields have made our lives much easier or in certain cases perhaps more complicated, but we all can agree indoor plumbing beats shitting in the woods. The ability to capture certain moments in our lives via photographic snapshots or HD videos allows us to relive those memories throughout the rest of our lives and in many cases they travel down generations and give us a glimpse of years past or loved ones lost.

Pictures allow us to revisit a place we yearn to go again. I was told once that life is about simple moments and while agree, it’s moments that transcend into nostalgic memories that are generally the ones that stay with us forever. Perhaps it is why nostalgia’s origin translates to A Return Home.

    Day 1

Dove Friday with Ed and Jason off Big Pine Key. Viz was about 40 feet and dove one spot that produced most of the fish. Top was at in about 55, but dropped off down to the 70 feet range. We limited out on blacks then were taunted throughout the rest of the afternoon with two keeper groupers that must have known the quota was filled. Hammered the mutts pretty good as well as a few other quarry.

More for Don Paul....The most interesting man in the world!

Dan has an orgasim everytime Don Paul posts on his threads

When Don Paul is on-line, we all refresh the page every second to read his posts.

The Grogan offered his first born to have Don Paul contribute to his bullshit forum

Cabernets wished they aged that gracefully.

    :D

the man...even when trying to be understated he still sounds like the Dos Equis man :D

That's it. Don Paul is the Dos Equis man. I knew it.

Fish rush to impale themselves on his speargun, simply to know it was a good death.

Rome would have been built in a day, if they’d followed his blueprints correctly.

He can teach an old dog new tricks.

He goes ice-fishing with his bare hands

When he farts, people don’t hold their breath.

Sharks have a week dedicated to him!

    Updated: August 31, 2011

In June 2011, The Commission amended the rule for permit, Florida pompano and African pompano in order to provide increased protection for these important species. In the past, there were no regulations for these fish in federal waters adjacent to Florida. The recreational rule amendments primarily establish recreational regulations in federal waters of the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic.

These rules create separate management strategies for each species. The combined bag limit for Florida pompano and permit were split into separate bag limits, and the size limits for each species were changed.

The new rules also create two separate management areas in Florida for permit. The Special Permit Zone (SPZ) lies in south Florida, encompassing waters south of Cape Florida on the Atlantic coast and south of Cape Sable on the Gulf coast. The regulations for permit in the SPZ are more restrictive to protect spawning aggregations of permit as well as large permit that support the trophy fishery in the Keys. The remainder of Florida (north of Cape Florida and Cape Sable) makes up the other permit management area.

The recreational regulations in the chart below apply in Florida state and federal waters of the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic unless otherwise noted.

Recreational regulations for state and federal waters effective August 31, 2011

    Permit inside SPZ

    22" fork length

    May 1 - July 31 Closure

    1 per harvester per day

State waters: Hook and line only; Federal waters: Hook and line and spearing

Vessel limit: no more than 2 permit per vessel

    Permit in all other waters

Not less than 11" or more than 22" fork length

    2 per harvester per day

State waters: Hook and line only; Federal waters: Hook and line and spearing

May possess 1 over 22" included in the per person bag limit. Vessel limit: no more than 2 over 22" per vessel

    Florida pompano

    11" fork length

    6 per harvester per day

Hook and line, cast net, and beach or haul seine

    African pompano

    24" fork length

    2 per harvester per day

State waters: hook and line only; Federal waters: Hook and line and spearing

Vessel limit: no more than 2 African pompano per vessel

I recently spent two days diving the keys and was made aware of some differences in the Permit regulations down there and in South Florida compared to the rest of the state. I think it's important for us as divers to comply with these regs as the ability to harvest these fish is certainly a positive for our sport. I've attached a link for these NEW regulations that went into effect August 31st 2011. Notice that their exists a closure for areas in the SPZ (Monroe and South Florida).

If they really wanted to destroy the population is to allow recreational divers to sell lionfish to fish houses. In this down economy, this would be a great stimulus. Lionfish is extremely tasty, once the masses begin to experience these fish on their plates, they will demand to eat more of it. It is that good. If anyone knows of any fish houses or restaurants that are currently buying Lionfish, I would be curious to know what they are charging per pound. Kill 'em all!
