I saw toots in hollywood, free concert on the beach. It was amazing, first we all got to dance on stage, then we went and swam in the ocean.

My tastes are all over the map. But 1stWave Ska/Rock Steady/Reggae, Real Country (old), Classic Rock, Metal, and indie are the ones that stick out and persist. That doesnt narrow it down much but I can go in too many different directions all day.

A few things I listened to this morning.
Lynn Taitt & The Jets - Hold Me Tight - Johnny Nash Vocal - YouTube
Johnny Cash - Big River - YouTube
The Whitest Boy Alive - Gravity [high quality] - YouTube
Tea for one - Led Zeppelin - YouTube

Looking carefully I am not sure its loaded, the flopper seems to be sideways from the handle. May just be an optical illusion that its loaded and the shaft is shoved behind it. Ive heard a horror story about a gun loaded pointed up out of water.

    Man what a wahoo though.

Just went "free diving" and it was the biggest mistake of my life. I didn't get enough diving in yesterday and knew the conditions would be decent today so I went for a shallow first reef beachdive off Fort Lauderdale. Not expecting to see much and trying to record some gorpo footage I left my gun on the banks board. 2 hour later at the end of the dive a magnificent giant stud hogfish swims right up to me following a large dark blue parrot fish. I tried to calmy retrieve my gun but by the time I had it out he had vanished into a labyrinth of holes. I spent another 30 minutes looking in the general area hoping he would come back but it never happened. It was one of the biggest ive seen in person. Only seen bigger ones in the keys under bridges lobstering.

Besides the tease it was another really enjoyable beach dive. But im never going freediving again.

Today sure was fun. Awesome pics hardline. I love seeing pics of myself in the water thanks. Sadly most of my gopro footage is junk because my camera was pointing up too high.

Went for a beachdive today off hollywood with Frank/Hardline, Judah/LunkerBuster, and Xan/Wishihadgills.

It started out and ended kinda weird. Apparently It was canada day and the entire city of quebec arrived at hollywood beach 20 minutes before us. We attracted a lot of attention on the way out, and probably made it to about 400 canadian Facebook profiles on the walk back.

In the middle was a really nice day of diving. Viz was pretty good all day about 40' in 30' with a very slight southerly current and a slight chop. The fishing wasnt as good as the conditions, but everyone went home with dinner. Ending with 4 (I think?) lobster, 3 snappers, and 2 triggers between us. As it goes. We found more large grouper then anything else. We took a raincheck till may.

I also got to try out my new speardiver torch and in doing so found a keeper lobster which my wife is about to put on the grill. Althought Xan and Judah found more lobster without a light ;) The light kicks ass and the tight beam was amazing for checking deep holes.

Took a few macros after cleaning my catch. Lobster are as weird as they are beautiful.

I think its a matter of how well a suit fits. I fill out my 3mm speardiver suit pretty well and It doesn't leak even a little bit. Heck I could probably save and reuse the conditioner in my suit after a day of diving. I think the skinny tall guys seem to have it the hardest.

You could just paddle it out like a surfboard and then go spearfishing.

    Don's link has led us to another solution. Just build a complex pully system to cock the gun! <img src= " class="smiley" srcset="https://spearfishing.world/forum/images/smilies/emojione/1f606@2x.png 2x" height="23" width="23" loading="eager" data-tooltip="biggrin" aria-label="biggrin"> <img src= " class="smiley" srcset="https://spearfishing.world/forum/images/smilies/emojione/1f606@2x.png 2x" height="23" width="23" loading="eager" data-tooltip="biggrin" aria-label="biggrin">

    Cocking_Supergun

If its not a total canon (how long is it?) another option is cut the butt right at the handle and learn to chest load without the rest tab.

This video shows how you can pre-load the band as you place it on your chest with a gun thats too long to reach. I have a rest tab on my 120 but often skip it in favor of this method as its faster.

    Thanks dude.

Got out with my Dad off hollywood today. It was an interesting day to say the least.

Surface conditions were shite, but viz was nice. About 30-50ft viz in 30ft and a little better in 50ft. Offshore there was a nice N swell and some multi directional-snottyness. Inshore was better but got worse as the day progressed. Did some H&L for a while and came up empty, then went diving. It was very overcast almost all day. But viz was good even in the gloom.

Ended the day with 3 schoolmasters, a mangrove, and a rock hind grouper. Got teased to death by a monster gag, a large cubera and a King Fish all 3 being the largest I've seen. The gag and snapper used a vast series of tunnels and holes to let me get peeks with my flashlight but never take a shot.

All around lots of activity on the reefs. Some big beautiful nurse sharks, a few turtles, lots of schools of jacks, runners, spades, chubs.

Ill post some pics/videos soon. Esp of the amazing shot I made on the rock-hind. Right handed (im a lefty) from the hip no look into a hole. Nothing but net.

Also forgot to mention the awesome sailboat that sailed basically directly at me and our following boat, then veered towards me as he got closer. Only when I got half out of the water and shrugged my shoulders did he sharpen his turn and show his side to me.

This is my intent for this trip. I have no desire to go deep!! .....get as close to locals as possible and stay inside the lagoon.

I must admit, i am pretty intimidated about the presence of a shark, how do you deal with that? Its not like i can carry my 460 on my hip.

Upon return, I am also excited about diving my local lakes and reservoirs. No threat of anything.

Dan does sell something that gives you the ability to carry some 7.62×39mm on your hip. Speardiver Quick Slip-on Powerhead
But this is more of a last defense in a worst case scenario. :shark4:

If I recall, grey reef sharks can be particularly aggressive with divers and hungry for their catch. So your best bet is to keep your eyes peeled. And be especially cognizant of whats around after a speargun is fired, and with shot fish/blood in the water.

    Also dont crunch any waterbottles <img src= " class="smiley" srcset="https://spearfishing.world/forum/images/smilies/emojione/1f606@2x.png 2x" height="23" width="23" loading="eager" data-tooltip="biggrin" aria-label="biggrin">

If I am not mistaken the white is on par with the original hero. The silver is on par with the hero2, and the black edition is the black.

In my opinion the hero/white does a pretty good job (i still have a hero) esp if you arent trying to "go pro" lol. But the silver and black does seem to offer some good improvements especially in low light shooting performance. I found this comparison video GoPro Hero 3 White vs Black Edition in Low Light - YouTube

I have some experience with blue water spearfishing (mostly mahi-mahi). It comes with its own set of rules, hazards, and gear recommendations. For instance, a reel can be dangerous while bluewater hunting because of the risk of entanglement combined with the strength of the fish you are hunting. Its better to use a "floatline" setup and let the fish fight itself. Another staple of blue water spearfishing is very large powerful spearguns. You need a big fast gun to shoot big fast fish. Much larger then the guns you are talking about.

Also, Remember that unlike so many activities (and like a few others) spearfishing can easily kill if you aren't cognizant and prepared for the various possible hazards involved. Id suggest reading all the forum posts you can here and try to absorb as much information as possible.

You cant beat the freedive store for gear purchases. Everything they carry is amazing and well priced. I have a 120 carbon railgun, suit, fins, etc etc.

Awesome Video!! Nice fish! <img src= " height="23" srcset="https://spearfishing.world/forum/images/smilies/emojione/1f606@2x.png 2x"> Makes me want to go diving like skate videos used to make me want to go skate as a kid. But its 4-5 out. :( Seeing videos of other places is cool but nothing beats local stuff.

Ive had a triggerfish get the tip of my glove but not my finger once. Now im extra careful.

How are you liking your ulusub gun?

Pretty tight, always with two hands.. dunno why, but seems to work.

Im with Nate. I instinctively shoot my speargun weaver stance like its a pistol.

I try to do it one handed like everyone else seems to, but I cant break the habit. I only use one hand when Im holding onto the bottom.
