Great pics, I get a real feel of the water. How deep are you in the 2nd last?

Thanks guys. I was also pleased with the pics despite expecting video. The sand there was close to 30, so I was probably 25-28

We were just about where we went that one time Dan and drifted north from there. There was some really nice deep ledges between each reef that grouper seemed to like.

Had to play hookey from work today and go beach diving. A friend is down from Maritime Academy for christmas and the conditions seemed too nice to pass up.

We went out from Fort Lauderdale beach 8-11. Conditions were flat, crawling northern current, 76f water. Viz was 25-30 most of the morning.

Drifted north on the second reef for quite a while. Saw a number of nearly legal gags. Lots of bait, runners, jacks. A good number of baby hogs. And A huge mac/king that I spooked away quickly. Near the end of the day I got a nice Red grouper.

My buddy just wanted to dive so he wielded the go pro.I accidentally put it into timed picture mode so unfortunately instead of video we got lots of badly timed pictures lol. Fortunately this allowed a few good frames to be found, arranged, and uploaded here for your viewing pleasure.

Im probably overestimating a bit underwater. But he was def the biggest I've seen. I already had all the other fish by that point though.

He was much darker (and actually hanging with 2 other 12-13 inchers) then the smaller ones ive seen which thew me a bit. But still looked very much like a strawberry. Unless there are other small-dotted red grouper species?

Nice grouper Nate. It looks like he was in the open. Good thing as un sticking a holed up grouper at 70+ would be a task.

Thanks for the info Andrew, I usually like cooking whole the smaller yield fish but I've never heard of cooking a whole grouper. Hmmm.

Dan you can see the boat in his grouper pic a bit. It was super choppy running out in the morning. It layed down considerably by mid Morning though.

Went bluewater fishing/diving today. We got skunked on Hook & Line so we came in to the reef around noon. I was expecting crap viz like I had in Fort Lauderdale yesterday but to my elation I could see structure from the boat.

I dove solo for a while. Got a couple decent mangroves A barely legal Red grouper that looked bigger in his hole. And a Nice hog. Saw lots of fish action. Tons of borderline and small grouper. A lot of small school masters and grovers. A bunch of strawberries I passed on (never eaten one don't know enough about yield/taste etc ). Tons of dif jack species.

Sorry to hear it Dan. I found really nice viz off Hollywood today. Better then I've seen in months. The kind that you can see the reef from the boat. It was probably 40-50 feet viz on the second.Viz got worse the closer I got to hallendale. Saw lots of fish action. Tons of borderline and small grouper. A lot of small school masters and grovers. A bunch of strawberries I passed on (never eaten one don't know enough about yield/taste etc ). Tons of dif jack species.

Edit: Moved the rest to my thread.

I had my hood off from the get go and spent half the time with my hand around my neck letting water in. But as soon as I let go the water I let in very quickly warmed back up. So I wasnt too bad swimming around. But every time I dove I was right back to feeling too hot again. And for some reason I generate a lot of heat during and after a breathold. Its simply a matter of your wetsuit working too good <img src= " height="23" srcset="https://spearfishing.world/forum/images/smilies/emojione/1f606@2x.png 2x">

The same thing happened last year around this time where the water is a bit tricky to predict, but from now on I need to err on the side of being chilly not warm. I need to remind myself A bit of a chill makes things slightly uncomfortable. Being too hot makes me feel like im heat strokin.

Tomorrow I will probably just wear the speardiver vest and lycra.

Cool that hardline got a sheepshead, I never see those.

Good tips Dan. I like to pull the hood back and flood water down my neck and back, seems to cool me off really quick.

We were saying the same thing. Ive seen a couple babies off hollywood usually around really large coral heads. This spot was similar. Its a nice one too. He will probably be posting a pic.

Also, I should mention. It was pretty fishy out. Was only on the first reef but saw lots of action. Jacks, Runners, Some triggers, And a fair number of nice mangroves at the edge of viz.

Went out this morning with hardline. It was a bit rough 1-2 with a swell and viz wasn't so great. But it was doable on the first reef. I totally jinxed myself talking about overheating and puking in my wetsuit yesterday. The water was a little warmer then last time I dove and so as soon as I started doing drops I was boiling.

Hardline found a nice lobster hole but they didn't respond well to my speargun tickelsticking and holed up harder when I messed with them. Need to bring a snare/ticklestick on the banks board for sure.

We tried hitting the second reef but with no viz the swell kept making me swim in circles and I was already feeling not great. So we went back to the first and found a nice bit of structure. I missed a grover and had another tear off, and Hardline got a schoolmaster and a nice sheepshead. I was by then pretty sick from overheating so we decided to head back in.

Despite the negative aspects it was cool meeting Hardline and nice to be underwater and stuff. And I am glad Hardline got some fish.

Going out bluewater tomorrow looking for Mahi and Wahoo. Thanks for the heads up Mike. Did you see anything floating out there or was the ocean clean?
