If somebody would make a modern day digital watch that only included time, stop watch, and a simple depth reading, they'd make a fortune. I'd love to have one of the $300 computers, but at the moment I can't justify spending that much. If there was just a simple watch between $75-$100, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.. and I'm sure many other spearos would do the same, especially the students.

I'm not sure if this will clear up your question or not, but I'll try anyway. :) This year, in gulf waters, gag has a later open season start date. Other species open April 1st, while gag doesn't open until July 1st. I'm fairly certain that the announcement on the opening gag date was just made recently, as in the past few weeks, making it after your pamphlet was printed.

    Sick vid....

and with the usual noob question.... Tarpon spearing in FL? I thought regulations said other wise (in fact i have them in front of me) :confused1:

Tarpon Springs is a place, maybe you saw the "sp" in springs and associated it with "sp" from spearing.

Nice Bulit. You didn't notice a current from the south at all? I did a beach dive out of the Lauderdale area yesterday morning and got my ass handed to me by current from the south.. I was planning on diving further north, but the A1A marathon put a stop to that. It took everything I had to not end up a mile north of where I entered, glad you had better conditions. The vis was nice though. :D

I think their point is that spearos hurt the reef indirectly by targeting fish that maintain coral, which aren't commonly caught by other means.. as opposed to physically harming the coral with the spear. Either way, it's a pretty weak argument. Here in Florida we can't take species such as parrot fish and surgeon, and places like Hawaii where you can take such fish seem to have flourishing reefs.

The stingray took 14 kick cycles to get to 66 feet. The pathos 10. That translates to 8 less kicks to 20 meters and that means more bottom time. Stingrays are not bad but give me pathos any time.

That is an insane improvement.. I'm currently using stingrays, really makes me wonder.

Thanks for the positive feedback guys. I love the net and tickle stick combo, it's pretty much 100% success rate. I grab them too, but not always as successful.
Dusky, I believe I bought that net at basspro for something like $5. It's nothing special, I just try to get smaller profile nets so I can fit them under ledges and in holes. I took the normal bungy off the handle, drilled a hole and put a mono loop so I can attach it to my weight belt when I'm without the kayak. I've had it for 3 yrs or so, every now and then I replace the net part when i get too many holes to repair.

I'll take a moment to commemorate the tickle stick in that vid. I've used it for several years, and it has more good juju on it than Michael Jordan's lucky shorts. Unfortunately, as of 2 weeks ago, it's on the bottom somewhere off Fort Lauderdale. Here's to you :toast:

Bumping this for the sake of Kikkoman Ponzu sauce. I was rummaging through the cooking section last night searching sashimi, and I came across this thread. I bought some about an hour ago at publix and proceeded to make 1/2lb of YJ disappear in a matter of seconds. This stuff is the bomb.

Cool thread. I love squirrel, we usually put them in jambalaya.. or quarter them out, completely coat with hot sauce and deep fry it, without batter/breading.. sooo good. That iguana looks surprisingly tasty.. I've heard that they legitimately taste like chicken.
