My buddy, who is a lifeguard in Laguna, said a swimmer had a run in with a white shark today at Shaws Cove.
Sounds like the MPAs are already working. ![]()

I think Main Beach Laguna will be my new entry and exit point when meeting up with my Boat partner. This way ill have to swim in with my gear and catch from non closed areas, which is totally legal. I hope the bluebelters/coastwatchers call the dfg on me. It will be a fantastic waste of their time.
Some pics from this weekend including Volker reaching out the the SD News.

See you guys Saturday!!!
Nice work sir!!! When we gonna dive again?
Again awesome video Ben...cant imagine how much sand you had to look at to get all that...![]()

Reserve Calicos should be forced to share with the other calicos so its fair to every fish. I say we organize a bunch of starving calicos to stage an occupy MPA until they, the calicos of the reserve, start sharing with everyone else.
Daniel... take me to a 10 bug before they are banned forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! then all "tones" will be permissible.
BTW lets go get some scallops on Saturday afternoon...........You down?
Not that I care but I was told by my laguna lifeguard buddy that taking scallops anywhere in Laguna city limits from shore is illegal. Its a municipal code not a dfg law.
As far as DFG laws there is a small window where the 2 smcas (dana & laguna) dont overlap where you can take them from a shore dive.
Any Sunday but this Sunday Flying Ace!
gotta family xmas party to attend.
This is a better pic hahahaha

Who wants to join the no scallop left behind movement?
Sweet video! thanks for sharing
I should be able to make it down there !
Thats some serious kick!! Nice bugs and good healing.
Back from Mexico!!
It was a pretty crazy week with my brother getting married, getting stuck in an elevator with 17 people, the bride getting a black eye, and going to a mexican "rave". I managed one day of RnR fishing in Cabo for 2 dodos and all the small yellowfin you could reel in. We also raised 3 blue and one striped marlin but couldnt get one to stick.
Dove La Paz for 2 days with Mike Reed (Sciencemike) for not a whole lot. We tried for wahoo but the water was green, there was no current, and it was really overcast so the flashers were not working well. We hit Espritu Santo (sp.?) and I got a Pargo, a pair of small sierra and Mike got a pair of nice cabrilla and a pair of big Parrot fish.
The diving was a little out of my league as according to our guide the best fishing was at about 60ft sitting on the sand. I had a blast and got my first Pargo, which is one of the fish I really wanted to get.
I hope to get back down there for the yellowtail run and a wahoo in the future.
Some screen grabs... I hope to have a little video done soon.

Ah ah ahhhhh!
very nice of you Mike!
nice fish.
Dove Laguna tonight instead of hitting happy hour after work. It turned out to be a good idea. Got in at 730 or so and looked for bugs while I waited for the tide to fill in. Grabbed 4 Legals an prolly could have found more if I put some more time in. But as I got my kit back together after my 4 th bug a pair of marbles caught my eye. I was unsure what exactly it was at first as the fish was totally covered up, first one I've seen like that. Just based on the size of it's eyes I could tell it was a nice halibut so bam! I shot my new 5 prong right into it's head. Those 5 prong tips don't mess around!! Normally halibut will freak out when shot, but with the 5 prong the fish didn't move at all. I strung that fish up and about 5 minutes later the story repeated itself. Stoked on my luck I called it a night!
