fuzz, it occurs to me that many of the places I have seen it are second hand/ resale types where many people might just interject the word carbon to make something sound better.

I am trying to recall any shop or dealer calling it that.

Ah, I see a ton of those on Hawaii craigslist ads. :D

vey cool Jono...that is a bargain and a half...I have always wondered why Omer calls that gun the carbon when it is alum...wierd

either way your FiL should be stoked!!

You've seen the hf2 called carbon as well? :confused1:

They are 6 main models in the omer cayman line
Cayman Aluminum - (also known as Cayman 2000) basic round aluminum barrel w/ integrated track, reel optional
Cayman Kanaloa - same as 2000, but with open muzzle & different shaft, reel optional
Cayman Carbon - round carbon barrel w/ integrated track, match reel standard
Cayman HF - Full cuttlefish shaped hydroformed barrel, comes with match reel standard
Cayman HF2 - 2 mini cuttlefish sections in otherwise cylindrical hydroformed barrel, reel optional
Cayman ET - enclosed track, hydroformed, kinda cool shaft with unique shaft fin design, match reel standard

*there are a few variations of camo versions as well... i.e. hf2 LE & camu3d versions*

Never seen the carbon hf2 reference, but would be interested to see where it originated from.

All in all, $190 is a good deal for a solid gun. :)

    Fuzz,

What gun haven't you owned? lol

And which ones are your favorites?

    Never owned an abellansub... :D

Been wanting one since Victor did that all-plastic one (long discontinued)... but never got around to acquiring one. :)

Not sure on favorites... but there are a few that I absolutely know I dislike. ;)

I bet Fuzz has two of them:D

    Had... & only one. :D

    Wasn't very well thought out.
The bottom shaft just rattled around in the closed muzzle. Since it's upside down, didn't sit in the "V", but flopped to what would be the "top" of a normal muzzle.
Line release - from what I remember, there wasn't one.. just alligator clips on side. Make a damn side line release! Pain in the arse.
    Heavy in the water.
Bottom shaft hard as hell to aim & bottom band stretch was waaay shorter than top one.

I can think of a few things that the gun would be really fun for, but ultimately wasn't worth the trouble for me.

On my old RA shafts, the floppers were all tapered up... so I just whacked em down or viced em flat. :)

Lunker, that 2nd pic concerns me... if properly tuned, your flopper should swing freely toat least 30-45degrees before getting stuck. Looks like the flopper is on the bottom but sticking to the shaft somewhat.

I was thinking it was supposed to be, but not sure. I may take you up on that I would think the opener would be a great time to go depending on conditions. How far north do you dive from Orange Co. for those things? (hours) I don't really know the Nothern Coast all that well.

Probably better off just trying to find some cheap discount fares & fly into SFO... my garage is like a dive store anyways with extra belts/weights/guns/gauges/irons/etc. ;)

Or... roadtrip it up with couple buddies. For lings/rf, you can get em down in cambria pretty good. Those are some of best grounds I've seen.

Loved it! When does ling season open? I really want to go hunt those dinosaurs for the first time! Thanks for sharing. I really enjoy hunting reef fish. Nothing like shooting a big pelagic, but something about the reefs. I use to live in indiana and squirrel hunting was my favorite kind. I loved white tails, but squirrels are just fun to hunt. Funny how things trigger memories.

Know what you mean, hunting the reefs in Hawaii is my favorite type of diving. Nothing glamorous or huge in size, but it takes a lot of work/skill & a bit of luck to do well on those small skittish fish. Feels like I really earned it... in contrast to most of my WSB diving, where I feel like I just walked into a cow pasture & plugged one. :D

Ling is supposed to be open already, but DFG held it up... so looks like the traditional 4/1 opener. Drop me a line if you come up, would be happy to play dive guide. I've seen a lot of big ones this year, but the larger ones are all holed up pretty good (15-25# range).

    You look familiar:D

There was someone riffling through my trash this morning as I was leaving to work.
Could've been your doppelganger... thought it was you at first.
"WTF is Craig doing here at 5am going through my trash??!!!"

But nope, it turned out to be some industrious fellow stealing cans from my recycle bin. :laughing3:

Fuzz has the funniest joke about it, I can´t remember hahhaha something pertaining a Whale or something :D

Oh, not my joke, but something about the known challenges of shooting Riffe mid-handles.

Their other guns shoot well, but stock... the mid-handles are notorious underballasted.

So the discussion was something like:

"What does 'no ka oi' mean?"
"well... having shot it... I'd guess it's Hawaiian for 'no can hit a whale'"
    :)
