hate to show up hau.... but i gotta take the opportunity when it presents its self
went out yesterday morning with my cousin at around 9am (pretty late on our standards). the ocean was PERFECT. probably 30+ foot vis, not a wave in sight. looked like a pool out there. went out to the first ledge and shot a couple of big hogs. i got one of them at around 17", and next to it was a ~22" monster that my cousin took out. shot at another 17 incher but it somehow wrestled itself off the shaft. missed at another hog about 19 inches and missed at a nice sized mack in a school of bluefish.
went back in through the boulders and popped an 18" mangrove over there. stoned a 17" hog about 10 mins later. shot two 14" triggerfish during the day too, could have probably put 10 in the cooler if we had wanted to. shot at a decent sized aj and missed.
my cousin pulled a lobster and we called it a day. heres a pic of the hogs.
*PS, I'LL BE HOME ALL WEEK FROM SPRING BREAK WITH NOTHING TO DO. HOLLER IF YOU WANT TO GO OUT SOMETIME DURING THE MORNING! ANY DAY WILL BE FINE WITH ME!! TEXT ME 305 904 9764 I'M IN PLANTATION, HAVE A CAR, AND CAN CHIP IN FOR PARKING/GAS IF WE DECIDE TO CARPOOL!*
C'MON DAN!
i just ordered one of these yesterday morning off another site. just saw this on here now, i would have much preferred getting it over here.
'tis a shame.
this might be asking for too much, but does anyone know which ramp is the best ramp to park price-wise?
prices at some of the spots on the beach can run up to 15 bucks depending how long we're out for.
anyone have knowledge of free parking lots at any of these launch points?
here's the mako tape MAKO Flasher Tape
i don't have too much first-hand knowledge on the topic, but from what i've read on sb, it's better to go with a spearing brand because some of those other reflective tapes come off after a dive or two and are just annoying to keep up with. i know mako has tape on their site for a reasonable price
i'm also interested in knowing how this tape performs in reef diving situations, though.
how's the water been lately? i go to school out of state but i'll be home thursday-sunday. i'm hoping to get out and yak from meade a couple times this weekend. i see it's supposed to be around 2-3 ft for the weekend, anyone some more recent reports for the area?
thanks in advance
i think it should be fine. i know that leaving an inflatable hypalon boat in the sun is much worse than leaving a plastic kayak out. if i was home i would probably buy this myself, but i'm away at school right now. it's a pretty good deal.
found this on craigslist. it's not mine, i don't know who's selling it, but it looks like a good deal. its up in jupiter. figured someone on here might be interested in it :toast2:
Display MoreUmberto Pellizari the author of "The Manual of Freediving "is a pioneer of the sport. The original Italian text was translated to English by World Record holder freediver and spearfisherman , William Trubridge. They are currently working on a new version. The original is somewhat outdated but it is the first comprehensive publication on freediving. The sport has progressed greatly since its publication and there are many new theories and training programs.
Breathology is by Stig Severinsen , former record holder , scientist researcher. Here is his website :
Breatheology
Federico Manna has great books on breathing and equalization, also.
movinglimits.com
All of the books focus on relaxation and flexibility. That is why the yoga is in all of them. A flexible diaphragm is an important element to an increased breath hold. Relaxation will help you burn less oxygen; that is one reason your breath hold improves as you dive more. The more comfortable you are, the less oxygen you waste. Good fin and dive technique also make you more efficient.
Reading these books is helpful and then you need to go out and practice the techniques. Have a buddy film you with a GoPro and you can see what you are doing well and what needs work.
Hope that helps.
Carla
that helps a lot, actually. i posted this over at sb and got similar responses. i think i'm going to go with breathology. thanks for the help!
so is neither book a "must-buy"? i don't think i'll be spending the money on FII any time soon and was planning on picking up one of these types of books in the mean time.
i'm interested in this as well. was planning on buying manual of freediving as soon as i got a couple of visa gift cards in the mail.
are these the top 2 books? which is better?
i'm no veteran to the site, but welcome. lots of fellow south florida guys around here, you shouldn't have any problems finding people to fill up your boat if that's what you're looking to do :thumbsup2:
I have been eating those big 30 lb cudas for years out of miami waters for years and still here, nothing like a nice slab of fresh cuda fillet
you never had any issues of eating the bigger ones? i know the older ones get that bacteria that make them dangerous to eat... or is that just an outdated myth?
yeah we see plenty of 5' sized cudas but never shoot at them. we normally just go after the 1-2' ones because those are usually the safest for eating.
Nice mangrove. Were they schooling in midwater?
smaller sized ones were, i saw a bunch of them right around 12" that i didn't bother going after. the one in the picture was 19", it was found solo. the other one that was shot was 17", and that one was swimming alongside another but not in a school. both were in about 30-35' of water.
went out of govt cut with my cousins and uncle today. seas were great, it was completely flat out there with no current at all. we caught three bugs (one was massive, included in a picture), two big mangroves, two smaller-sized barracuda, and two fat lionfish. seemed like the whole ocean was dry after the first couple hours of being out. i figured i'd share a few pics- nothing amazing, just something to look at.
great pic, definitely appreciate that map.
what's up guys, new to the board. met hau a few days ago when i was coming back from a beach dive and he recommended this site to my cousins (hwd and Alex1) and i. looking forward to sharing information with you guys.
