to me the fish in the shallows are preeetty spooky and more of a hunt compared to the deeep... and we have a lot a commercial hunters here mostly see them in the shallows inside and a little outside the reef here to about 45 foot of water. I'm all about finding a good spot to blend in on the bottom... in the shallows when i see fish in the distance, i do a nice breath up and a nice, easy, quiet tuck and some easy kicks and sink motionless like I'm dead to the bottom (im weighted pretty good).. blend in behind a rock or fan coral or something.. i try to keep my head down as much as possible trying to hide my eyes, try to avoid eye contact. fins down like Marco said.. they always come in after a while.. anything comes in after a loong dive. sometimes dives are up to 1:50 to 2 minutes. usually around 1:30 to get the fish. often when I'm on the bottom, i put my head down and close my eyes and ''sleep" a while then look up really slowly and they're all around right in front of my face.. they get really curious specially when they think you're dead. be smarter then the fish, baddeh.. haha:cool2:..
    happy hunting and safe diving.:thumbsup2:

man it was a great day and a couple nice fish. i did let some decent size cuberas get away.. on one of my first dives went down to about 55 feet waiting for some grouper to come in that i saw when i was on the surface.. i was waiting and waiting and didnt see anything. i turned my head to the right and just 15 feet directly behind me about 10 big cubers come streaking towards me already.. being out of practice i spooked them maybe 4 times trying to get in position to line up a shot before they started swimming off. the ''WHAP!!'' noise was pretty loud from them changing directions when spooked. i took a long shot and missed.. shit. biggest ones were 25 pounds plus for sure. missed a couple more later that day too. also let a huge king fish get away. we were on top of 'Condos' after we shot a couple dogs.. was breathing up for another dive when i see this big fricken king right under me at about 45' swimming away at a good pace. i took a dive and kicked toward it with all i had... i even tried slowing down and blow bubbles out of my mouth but didnt work so i just took a hail-marry shot and missed.. i've only seen them on a few other occasions. this fish must have been between 4 and 5 feet long.... the ones that get away. oh well... at least they'll be bigger next time.. haha :thumbsup2:

i used some riffe silent hunters for a while before the speardiver C90 medium stiff i got about a month ago.. the speardivers are way more responsive and way more efficient for me in the distance-per-kick deal. the riffes for me feel heavy and 'lazy'... i can get to the bottom quicker and more efficiently now for longer for bottom time.... bigger fish??? hehe. awesome fins! super stoked..

Be careful Jake. 103' is deep. Too deep for my taste.

thanks marco, we are being really carefull actually as intense as sounds. i would never do dives like that without Dad or another certified safetydiver wating for me on the surface watching my back. im lucky i got a badass buddy like dad. happy safe diving!!:thumbsup2:

Nice wetsuit. I like the colors.
Here's another very happy Speardiver wetsuit owner. Jake tells me, "I don't know dad....I just feel more confident with that suit. It fits really well and ....I'm just more relaxed". I can't argue with him. The prick is killing it. hah.

yup, the suit is awesome.. i lay on the bottom a lot when diving and its still in almost brand new condition.... i call it THE STEALTH SUIT. my step-brother has an OMER 3mm, got it the same time i got mine and his looks way worn out already.

a few from yesterday... i drove the boat all morning and most afternoon because of the flu. Dad was killing it, he shot a big jack where the other one got off cause he hit 2, two nice big dogs and a little gouper. tino also shot a dog and a little jack.. i double dosed it on the sinus spray and the nasal decongestant capsules on our way out.. i got in the water at 3pm and tried some dives. i hit these two but little cubera was a good hunt... we were at one of our deep spots hangin on the wall and we could see fish on the bottom scatterd.. there was 2 huge schools of little jacks around us and some cubera and grouper on the bottom.. i made a dive down to the bottom about 84' and the jacks were all around.. it was hard to get a beed on a nice snapper... they kept getting spooked as i was trying to slowly creep through the jacks. this one came in close as i was running out of air. not bad for having the flu.. :)

thanks! i made a dive down to the bottom about 30ft away from him and approached him reeaally slowly.. it was in the middle of this cut so it was just sand bottom, nothing really to hide... but there were grouper everywhere that day. i must've seen at least 13 mostly over 15 to 20 pounds.. ive never seen that much grouper in a day....that time of the year? they where all pretty spooky and i only could get close to this one... we havent been diving in over a month so i felt i was kind of out of practice. it took me about a third of the day to get properly warmed up to do some nice dives..

nice black grouper... new PB 35lbs... shot him at about 50ft in the middle of one of our favorite cuts. was swimming out right of the cut with Mo to meet Dad and tino.... half way out Mo starts pulling on my fin and points down to a few little grouper. i waited a little while to breath up and not spook them, then 3 more big blacks swim over from the south side of the cut... made a really easy slow dive down to the bottom and approached this guy... nice stone shot right on the head.. didnt move at all.
