Salt fog, I was thinking same thing.

I like my larger bore snorkel, Only problem I had with it was reflecting in my eyes off the bottom of snorkel, some black rubber tape fixed that many years ago.

That snorkel would not work for side roll clearing.

The ABS fitting, just seemed like wrong material for mouth comfort. Could make a simple mold and cast something out rubber.

No Orange flagging on the end so divers and boaters might spot you. guess it depends where you are in water.

It might work in future , it does need some more R/D effort. Those mono fins sure are spendy.

Why didn't he use that vice for all the sanding/grinding?

A 1 inch belt sander would be good equipment upgrade for him, I love mine, you get those Zirconia Alumina belts for it and it grinds stainless for a long time. a 42" x 1" belt is around $2 each or less on Enco. The Kalamazoo Belt Sander, Model 505-1371 for $286 is a great tool.

Food for thought to you guys with mini shops in garage.

Wow, Lots of fireworks and not the 4th of July.

    I didn't see a callout on the MAKO Euro Muzzle adapters for;

    Thread Size?
    Thread Class?
    Length of Thread?
    Type Material?
    Surface Finish?
    Weight of Part?
What is the diameter of the Stem? Wonder what type of axial load it can handle?

The Stem on the Ball looks really long.... I don't see a technical reason to do that. Strange.....

I know before I get a reply that I ask too much, but No thread callout was my thought, I just added to the list as I was at it....

I know we all can do better at describing parts for customers to understand what they are getting.

I'm not on the "Beat Mako with a wet noodle campaign" , but there are so many other examples out there that don't describe what the product is with clarity.

Hey Dan, perhaps, We can have a Thread for Worst described spearo part. I could sure add to that thread.... Might get their attention to say what they are selling for the spear-o's out there. I'll let you consider that thought.

LOL, I figured it was a tongue and cheek deal.

You got a big advantage today in school with Web access. My options were to dig thru text book in the Library. It was actually a great resource, just took time to track stuff down.

Organic Chemistry, Not my deal at all.... I just had to take the two basic Chemistry classes for my degree. Pretty basic looking back at it.

PM me and I will sent you his contact info.

Don't expect him to just do your homework, but If you are stuck on a particular problem, I'm sure he would being willing to help.

If you are doing electrical, I can help with that. If you are in beginning class I guess you are doing F=ma, and ballistics. Maybe some Energy Conservation and momentum.

Carnac's expertise is with thin films, materials, and light. He does seem to know how to answer all of my questions.

Karl, You are one of many.

I anodize my poles, but I do have diver requesting poles without it, they like to polish the poles with a fine steel wool for the "new look". I don't think they consider the normal oxidation of Aluminum a hardened finish.

There are different classes of Anodizing as well.

Handling raw aluminum does get your hands black from the ALO2.

I started this post, so I could refer customers here when they ask the question. CARNAC did add a lot of detail.

I think I will send this link to my local Anodizers and see what they say.

If any of you have any Material Questions for CARNAC, he would be happy to answer them. He's a PhD Physicist btw.

Roads, I keep hearing roads... Really Roads.....

There are messed up roads everywhere. The degree of "messed up" in the question...

I have travelled a many a road, some great, some fine, some are slow travel.

Had to travel with chainsaw to clean timber, shovels, axes and picks to do road repair to get thru, Still a road, just takes a little longer.

Back in New Mexico in my younger days, we would go hunting Deer, Elk, and sometimes just rabbits on a mesa called San Mateo. To get up on the mesa there was a ancient road chiseled in to the side of a cliff.

I was probably made in the 1940-1950. I was going up it in the 70-80's and it had sense no repairs.

We would stop at the bottom, unload all the horses and walk them up to the top, then have one person walk and guide driver up to the top. Then reload the animals and move on. slow travel for 1/4 mile

In the winter when we had a couple foot of snow, it seemed to be easier cause you couldn't see how bad the road was.

I hear bad roads, and do an "eye roll" , perhaps the roads down there can't handle typical sedans.

Anyway, Had to roll down memory lane, Sure was lots of fun.

Welcome, Yep water is cold there like it is here in N. Cal.

You got the currents to deal with good Vis. I got the surf and low Visibility. My brother lives up there since 1984.

He was mainly a scuba diver, but I got to free dive off his sail boat (when he was resting). Boat is moored in Everett now.

His boat is a 33 foot, and he never would get a ladder. I had to rock climb up the motor and use the drain spout and a tiny foot hold to get back in.

San Juan Islands, Gulf Islands, Tacoma narrows are the names I can remember. He had me all over the place.

Welcome, and watch those tide charts...

Linghunt, If you ever come to Baja, I´ll be more than pleased to get you to some cool diving spots.

*Writes note in Diary* I do appreciate it. I struggle on making time to get to my coast here in N California and only 45 min drive. My buddy takes my boat out all the time without me. I do need to get wet more often. I get too busy making spears and tips for you divers out there.

I did take a couple days off last week to go slaughter and butcher some lambs. Got a hind quarter ready for smoker in the morning.

I'll have to make up some new stuff to go down there to test. I can then write it off as a business expense.

This is a great thread, It would be nice for other divers to comment on their Pros and Con of trips to Mexico.

Fact driven real life trips are best for others to decide.

Monster, not sure you want to be a tour guide, but traveling to a new area is always best with a local in hand.

I went to Puerto Vallarta in 2011. Ate some great meals in Chimo and had my friends there take great care of me for lots of diving and fishing.

I heard all the hype, and did not believe it.

I'm sure there are areas in Mexico I would not want to travel in. Same goes for USA (e.g. Oakland, Detroit, Chicago, etc.)

I look forward to returning for more fun soon. Traveling with cooler of frozen fish was simple on return home as well. Bought my friend a Vac sealer so I could use it. I hope he doesn't break it before I get back.

    Mexico Diving A+++

What if you put a smooth contour on the top center to aide viewing, it might also act like a rear gun sight?

As for the T-shot, you might have some type of indent to snap it into place. I didn't find the Male T-slot to see it.

This part would fit right in with Dan's store.

Nice you got the RIGHT set up.

I used a Weight Belt over the cider block. I switched to Mono on my guns back in the early 90's and did some testing then. For the static test I used a large fish scale and a wench.

You have fancier equipment for that test.

Those of you out there , make sure you wear your safety glasses and other PPE in doing these tests.

Thanks for the detailed comment. I'm just making the parts, and not sure what the Diver/customer is using them for.

A Small wing near the tip and a longer wing behind it, and at 180 Degrees from the first wing. Say spacing the second the second wing to start like 1 inch behind the end of the 1st smaller wing.

I figured it was about "Fish type / shot placement", but did not know for sure.

I've had some divers want strange stuff to me, but they seem to know exactly what they want, from their experiences, and Fish Losses.

A Slip tip is the way to go for larger fish. Yep agree.

Thanks again for the information and clarity. -John

Impressive, Try a dynamic shock test now.

(e.g. Rig line to ceiling, then attached to a weight, say 20 lbs and drop off a ladder at say 6 feet. Tension achieved at 2 feet from ground. That gives you 4 feet of weight accelerating)

Increase Weight till failure. You get to 50 lbs, I will be impressed. And yes it breaks at crimp or on top of thimble.

I keep getting requests for Pole Spear Tahitian style flopper tips with 2 wings attached to the shaft with 2 different pins.

I get replies back like " 2 are better than one" . "eye roll"

Call me stupid, but I don't see the tactical advantage of two wings spaced up and down the shaft. If 2 are great, why not 3, or 4 or 5 wings.

2 wings on the same pin for more contact area with fish, I can buy that. but the other way, only one wing can be engaged at a time, unless the second wing is hung up inside the fish.

    Thanks in advance. -John
