Just trying to figure out which size of Sportube to get. I'm hoping there are a few guys on here who own at least one of these models and can help me make a decision. My longest guns are an RA 130 and Riffe Euro 130, so either model will be long enough to support the spears. Is there enough space in a sportube 2 for 2-3 euro guns, RA 11L hard float, wetsuit etc or is it just big enough for a few guns? The weight difference is minimal. The Sportube 2 is 12lbs while the Sportube 3 is 14lbs from what I read.

It would be great if you could say what model you own and what you have fit into it.

    Thanks in advance,
    David

Sport tubes are the best. The Number 1 is perfect for a gun or two but if you want to put all of your gear the Number 2 has been the most popular.

How much gear can the number 2 fit? I'm thinking of bringing 3 spearguns back to Australia with me in July and can't decide which Sportube would work the best for me.The guns are a Riffe Euro 130, RA 130 and Sporasub One 105 if that matters.

That is awesome. Snapper are a tough fish to hunt. People in Oz usually recommend a 120 with reel to hunt them because a floatline is enough to spook them. I just like the fact that you have 2 sea snipers with you and you're taking some fantastic fish with a 90. Keep us posted with your adventures.

This is an awesome thread. That kingy is a great fish mate, congratulations. Just goes to show that a good stalker + a gun you're comfortable using goes a long way. Not many people can say they've taken a fish like that with a 90 RA. That is my favorite gun in my collection by far.

Awesome, that's exactly what I wanted to hear. I ordered the 160cm 7.5mm shaft with 3x14mm rubbers. I also have enough fresh rubber to make 2 x 16mm rubbers if need be. I appreciate the help guys

Hey guys, I want to shoot a 7.5mm shaft with my Riffe Euro 130 but am not sure if I should go with the stock length of 170cm, or go with a shorter shaft length of 160cm. I have done a lot of reading on the net about shaft overhang, but I was hoping someone would have first hand experience with this particular gun/shaft combination. I will be using 3x14mm Riffe Amber rubbers with the thicker 7.5mm shaft. I have only ever shot a 7.1mm shaft with 2x16mm rubbers on the gun but I want a heavier setup, as my RA 130 shoots a 7mm shaft and 2x16mm rubbers. Any information is appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm very impressed with the introduction of JBLs new guns. Phil, did you help design the JBL midhandle and euro gun? I remember reading a thread somewhere that mentioned your name?

Undersea: I haven't used the JBL yet but the Riffe Euro is a nice gun. I had a 110 and 130 and they were very well balanced guns that shot accurately. However, I sold them and went with Rob Allens because the main advantage of a "euro gun" (for me) is maneuverability + accuracy. The Riffe wasn't too hard to swing but the Rob Allen definitely swings easier.

For anyone wanting a new challenge, try freshwater spearing with 3 feet of vis. I had no idea how hard it would be adjusting from the clear waters of Australia to the limited vis in Utah. I had trouble finding good structure today that held any good fish, but it was good to get in the water to test out some new gear. It was odd that the deeper we dove, the worse the vis got. Anything past 30 feet was just black. However, the RA 5mm wetsuit was great. This is the first time diving in water this cold and I was toasty the entire time. I'm guessing the water was in the low 60s. Once we got out of the water, I took the top off (to take a leak haha) and I started to shiver. I was so warm in the suit that I thought the temperature had started to rise. Nope... just the suit.

Also got to test out my Beuchat Mundial Carbone fins. Great fins for the price I got them for. I'm sure there are better out there, but I was getting to 30 feet alot easier than with my plastic Omer Stingrays. I constantly thought I was in 18-20 feet but when I checked my dive watch, I was in 30. A big improvement from plastics.

I also needed to grab a weightbelt the day before, so I grabbed the Riffe belt with Nylon Buckle for $20. What can I say... it works :laughing3:
I need to buy another marseilles style belt.

Here is a photo of the RA wetsuit. Sorry for the crappy quality. It looks a lot cooler in person. If it fits your body type, I would definitely recommend it.

Just wanted to do a quick review for anyone interested in a new 5mm wetsuit. I just recently purchased the RA 5mm Weedline Camo Wetsuit from Dive Addicts. Josh is an awesome guy to deal with and I would recommend him to anyone. I am 6'3" and 190 pounds. I went with the size 4/ L and it fits me great. The size chart indicated I should be a size 5 but I didn't even bother trying it on after having the 4 fit me so well. I think this had to do with the ultraflex material RA uses which made the suit pretty flexible, and didn't seem to limit my movement at all.

I am diving with it on Friday morning at 7am, so the warmth of the suit will definitely be tested. I'll report back with water temperature and how the suit felt in the water. So far, my thoughts are positive. It is a little thicker than I am used to as I have only used 3.5mm wetsuits in the past. However, it is just as comfortable as my Riffe 3.5mm Digitek and fits me great. I'll update this thread with some photos + a more in- depth review after I go for a dive.

Thanks for the warm welcome fellas. I'm about 6 hours away from Lake Powell, but my Fiance's parents live a lot closer. I'll be looking forward to doing a trip or two to Lake Powell and Lake Mead before it gets too cold.

New to the board, just posted in the members section. Looking forward to being a part of this forum.

I use 200 feet of 1.75mm line on my RA Composite Reel. I'm looking at buying 2 more RA reels in the next month or so and can't find anywhere that sells a 200 foot spool of 1.75mm line. The Mako/ Spearmaster/ Wong reel is another popular one that uses about 213 feet of line (or a little more). I vote for a 200 foot spool. This sounds like a great idea. Are you thinking of offering different colors too?
